ASPCA TV Ads

I am a huge animal lover but I am so upset with Sarah McLachan (Arms of the Angels) and Willie Nelson (Always on my Mind) with the ASPCA ads showing at least a couple of times every hour. I am heartbroken every time I see the photos of the abused animals but as much as I want to help everyone of them I spoils my day to see this ad over and over again. I have to close my eyes or change the channel. This ad has been showing since before Christmas but it is too often. When it makes someone like me think it is over much and IMO really has the opposite effect then some thing is wrong. Your comment?? It is on an awful lot. It ticks me off because I contacted the ASPCA regarding some animals I believe are being abused. I was told they will not come to my city and to call the dog catcher. I had already done that several times! The dogs are still there, it has been a year and a half since I began this mission. I give up. I tried. But I will never support the ASPCA or the Humane Society because they would do nothing about these abused animals. Some friends of mine tried to contact them before regarding animal cruelty and got nowhere.

Sadly I have heard the same complaint about these organizations.

They are getting a bit carried away with them. The money they are wasting on all those commercials, could definitely make a difference in taking care of those animals. It is way too much.

I agree with you. I was thinking about this today. I was watching two different channels, and on both channels, they aired these commercials you are talking about 3 times during the hour I was watching, on BOTH channels. Some might say it's good, because it reminds people of the abuse animals get. And I say that if a person doesn't get affected by the commercial once, then they sure as heck aren't going to be affected by seeing it three times. Seeing this so often just makes me feel depressed, and kind of manipulated.

I've seen the Sarah McLachlin one quite a bit. It doesn't bother me. I don't watch a lot of tv and usually am up doing something else during the commercials anyway. I understand why they show it a lot. They want to raise awareness and even if it is irritating and disturbing then it still is on your mind and that is what they want.

I'm so with you on this whiteheather! I can't watch that commercial either and change the channel when it comes on. It upsets me to no end to see the scars of these poor animals and angers me like a mad woman to know the cause is by a low life scum bag fellow human being. It makes me so damneda mad! And the eyes of these animals is so heart wrenching! Then a couple of rich and famous people come on TV and beg us poor people for money to help when they're sitting on their millions of dollars makes me even more angry! Granted, they're doing a good deed getting the point across but damn it, they need to put their money where their mouth is too! If they can talk the talk then they need to walk the walk the walk as well and set the example for the rest of the world. Another thing, have you seen the commercial about kids over seas somewhere living in squalor conditions and don't know where their next meal is coming from? It really ticked me off too because the host was this famous FAT woman wearing really nice clothes and her hair and makeup all dolled up and she's holding a little girl in her arms who looks like she's never had a bath or had new clothes! Just seeing that really made me so damned mad because it's as if she's showing off her success in front of those people which is not right at all! Again, another who needs to put their money where their mouth is AND take ALL beings into consideration whether it's human or animal. For the record, we donate $20. every month to HSUS. We'd give more if we could but at least we give something.

In the defense of at least some of the celebrities that get involved in these kinds of causes, many actually do put their money where their mouths are. Annie
