Cooking a good healthy meal each day seem like a very long task. When working and having to take care of kids cooking a meal that is good and healthy make microwave seem like a better ideal. There are these cooks on TV the food network in particular that say that you can cook a meal in thirty minutes or I get these recipes that say can be cooked in thirty minutes but I have never had a meal that was prepared in thirty minutes. The meal can consist of fresh and prepackaged items but still it takes longer then thirty minutes is there really a meal that can be cooked in thirty minutes and it consist off more then one prepackaged food.

I usually cook in 30 minutes or less and do everything from scratch. I don´t like prepackaged food and it is usually more expensive than what I can afford. Here are some less than 30 minute meals I usually cook. 1. Pasta (spaguetti) with chicken on tomato sauce (about 25 min). Or spaguetti with pesto(about 15 min). Or spaguetti with white sauce, diced ham and parmesan cheese(about 20 min). 2. Shepherds pie(30 min). 3. Roasted chicken(or pork, or whatever meat you prefer) with white rice. The time will depend on the meat you use. 4. Any kind of omelettes with cooked vegetable leftovers, cooked rice leftovers, raw grinded carrot( 10 min). 5. Legumes (I use my pressure cooker to boil the legumes in 10 min after I soak them overnight). I add leftover rice to lentils, bits of ham and ham bone to garbanzos, pork to beans. In my house I don´t fill dishes in excess if I made too much of anything. They turn into something else the next day. A green salad can be a good adition to all I have said and a fruit as desert will give you vitamins and minerals.

I think it's not easy to prepare a meal within thirty minutes, if i want to have everything made from fresh vegetables, it usually takes me 1 hour to prepare the meal, as i need to cut so much. Sometimes if i really want something fast, then i will just make the noodle soup, definitely will finish in 30 minutes and also it's very delicious!

yes, they are... if the meal doesn't consist of many ingredients to be prepared and cut, then i can cook a meal in 30 minutes... again, does the 30 minutes include the cooking time or not??? i assume not... anyway, most of the time i can't finish preparing the meal in 30 minutes because i use fresh ingredients and i cook from scratch... take care and have a nice day...

I guess when they say cooking time is 30 minutes, the preparation time such as slicing and cutting is not included. They assume that you buy those already cut raw and prepared raw materials for the cooking.

I have seen Rachael Ray and Jamie Oliver's 30-minute meals and I must say that, because they are both trained chefs, I think it's just natural for them to cook and prepare their food so fast that it only takes them 30 minutes all in all. Whenever I cook a meal, it usually takes me an hour to complete it, from preparation to cooking. So I don't think that applies to everyone but as Jamie Oliver said, "You should have everything you need beside you or they are all in the kitchen counter so you don't need to find them when you're cooking.

I think a lot of the time in making a meal is spent cutting up vegetables, etc., and so when they say 30 minutes, they don't count the fact that it takes the average person longer to cut the food up. I worked in a kitchen once and you had to be really fast at chopping to keep up. That being said, there are some meals that I make that take less than 30 minutes. We can have grilled chicken with rice and carrots, this takes about 30 minutes although I do have a rice cooker. If we have paninis or tacos, that can take less than 30 minutes, although it's a pretty light meal.

I haven't really thought about it much. I think the pasta dish I made tonight took less than thirty minutes, but the sauce was prepackaged! I think it is difficult to do a meal in only 30 minutes... especially when you use all fresh ingredients.

You can make meals in 30 mins if you're used to making a specific dish. For example, when starting to cook a new recipe, you will definitely take a long time in making it, since you have to follow directions and you're observing what is happening while you are adding the ingredients, etc. Once you've done the recipe for about 5 or more times, preparing and cooking it will be very fast, since you're already accustomed to how to prepare and cook it. I don't usually cook, but I like baking. When making brownies, I usually took at least 2 hours to prepare and bake it. Now, it takes me just 10 minutes to whip it all up and put it in the oven, bake it for 45 minutes.

Most of my dinners take 30 min or less but am the type of cook that can have several things going at once. I normally make a rice, pasta, or potato side dish a veggie and a meat. home made or pre packaged the first side takes about 20 min. I always steam or cook my veggies in microwave and they take about 10 min ( I cook for 8 so lots of veggies lol) The meat always takes the longest but if for instance I am making pork chops I put 2 or 3 pans on stove to cook all at once so about 10 min on each side and done. I normally do not fry but do most of my meats on top of stove. I use a lot of pam.
