I've posted a few articles recently about the Beatles and their work at Abbey road in London, and how the famous Zebra crossing there has been given monument Status..
I'm just watching a news item Here about "Ringo" Starr's former home in Madryn Street,Liverpool being under threat of Demolition as it's now in a run down area, with some Authorities claiming demolition is the only viable option for the area, but there is a campaign going to raise awareness of such plans, and to try and preserve the musical history link by preserving it..What do you think about the possibility of the Demolition of Ringo's House? Are You for its Preservation for posterity,or demolition and "Progress"?

I think they should build around it like Joske's did in San Antonio...
In 1944, Joske's of Texas bought the church-owned St. Joseph College a couple of lots away and later made an offer as high as $200,000 to buy the church property, according to the parish history book. The church unanimously refused the deal, a source of pride to this day and the reason for the parish's enduring nickname, St. Joske's

What was that cute Movie (Disney?) where an old brownstone building was being targeted by a developer so He could get the residents to move out, demolish the place and get a fat cheque for a glitzy downtown skyscraper development..but was thwarted when the residents were helped by little robotic flying saucer like Aliens..oh yes.."Batteries not Included"!

Well, as a foreigner, a Beatles-themed trip would attract me to visit Liverpool, now that the football isn't so great there (kidding. Football will always remain an attraction for tourists in Liverpool, I'd say - but visiting the memorial houses wouldn't be so bad to fill in the day, either).
I don't know how run down the house is, whether it presents a threat to people or not - these things should be taken into consideration, but from my point of view, everything related to the Beatles is worth preserving, they're one of the biggest images of the 20th century.

Thanks for responding! The news item had a reporter talking with campaigners for and visitors to the house,so it seemed to be showing a lot of the small houses in the terrace row as being boarded up..I didn't notice them interviewing people as actually being neighbours on that street, but they were going for soundbites from Liverpudlians and visitors to the street..It'll be interesting to see where this goes!

Hello, ShepherdSpy. I suppose it depends on the condition of the house, and the area in general. If it's really run down, I can't see that any Beatles fans would get much out of visiting it, and it would probably cost a lot of money to turn it into a viable tourist attraction.
Maybe a better idea would be to create a 'Ringo Park' as part of the regeneration, with maybe a small visitor centre, or eeven just some information boards for people to read. The link with the past needs to be preserved, but not in a way that cheapens the Beatles and their origins.

The TV item (Sky News) had the reporter talking to several (US?) sounding Fans/visitors who were there outside the house, whether this had been rehearsed or if they just happened to be there when the TV crew arrived,I don't know
So it's possible visiting Beatles fans are going to the street already to see where Ringo used to Live..The place did seem to have that "Ghost town" feel,no traffic on the street, lots of boarded up doors and windows, not much if any sign of life..I haven't done any Beatles based tourism myself, but if I was in Liverpool with time to spare the "Cavern" site would be one place I'd check out,and maybe also where the guys lived..I agree with you on preservation being important, but I don't know how extensive the regeneration plans for the area are going to be,or when demolition of the area is scheduled,if there's a deadline for any preservation..
