Is it compulsory to make a ‘Resolution’ in New Year?

Dear mylotters, I think making a ‘resolution’ in New Year is also become a trend now. I have seen the newspapers on 1st January, which are filled with resolutions of celebrities. I watched in TV programs where (phone-in program and different other programs) all are talking about the resolution in New Year. Many of them are confessing that they are making some resolutions but breaking it after a short period. What you think dear mylotters. Is it necessary to make a resolution in New Year? Do you make resolutions in New Year? If so will you be able to maintain the same throughout the whole year? Else are you a person to enjoy the life the way as it comes… Have wonderful New Year.

for me, it is not. i have never had any of the resolution stuffs all my life and i think i am doing okay.. and is also continuosly evolving to change myself, and change according to what needs to be changed in every aspect of my life without waiting for another year to be able to do so.

Hi chiyosan, Happy New Year. If you want to change then you won't wait for the New Year to come, that is really is great. Thanks for sharing. Have a lovely time.

Hi kala, I do not believe in any new year resolution. For me time is time and we only segment it into different parts. And the eve of new year also a part of it. If I am to take any resolution I would take any time that is convenient and necessary. Why to wait for the new year to come? Well if you want to start any particular project in the new year that is ok but making resolution for resolution sake is meaningless.

Hello Rajib, Happy New Year. 'making resolution for resolution sake'- I think this is going on recently. Yes, if we want to achieve any special targets we can make a resolution at any point of time. Thank you very much for your reply. Have a lovely year.

In my opinion, a resolution could be something important. If it really will be implemented. But the resolution, would be a futile, if only be made only (only the resolution no action). I myself do not make resolutions, I only live this life alone. Only, I hope, my life became better.

Hi indahfth, Happy New Year. Yes, making a resolution is important and should follow up then only we get the advantage. Is there any problem in your life, why you said you are alone? I hope I am not disturbing you with my questions. Be happy always, have a lovely time.

Its really up to you if you are going to make one or not. Resolutions are nothing if you are just going to break it after. What is important is if you make one and make sure you do something to make it work.:)

Hello Jen, If a person make a meaningful resolution and do justice to the same, then it really make wonderful things to that person. For me, I don’t have the habit of making resolutions. Thank you so much for your reply. Happy New Year. Have a lovely time.

Hi oligel, Happy New Year. Well, so the resolutions are meant for them who want to change. It is a good idea then, but the person should follow what he/she promised to himself/herself, otherwise there is no meaning. Thank you so much for the wonderful explanation. Have a lovely year.

I dont think its a requirement that someone make a resolution however many people do and as you said many people break them after a short time. I myself did not make one this year.

Hi Sree, celebrities like making resolution in New Year is not a new trend actually. It's just because the way of spreading of information is very much advanced compared to that earlier. Nowadays almost every family or outlet or even street stall owns a tv and it works the whole day. And celebrities have the worth value to show their face in the broadcast to attract audiences to benefit the revenue of the broadcasting station. Some of them accomplish their respective resolution whereas some of them in vain, or materialize partly, might be due to recession, scandal, etc. I know many people around making new year resolution as well. People hope that the new resolution made would push them to reach the goal set. Of course work hard and deal with the target set persistently and wisely, might be one would get success by the end of the year. I was an ambitious person during my younger days. I used to make new year resolution written down in my brand new and lovely journal It's disappointed that I'm a person of procrastination and majority of them were "white elephants". Those were things that would turn out a mere matter of form finally lol... If all those amassed resolutions for years had come to true I don't think you could see me typing post here at present lol.... Anyway I prefer to live a relaxing and comfortable life nowadays. Might be having regular physical exercise, taking healthy and nutritious food, to be happy, reading and typing myLot post daily is my new year resolution if acceptable Take care and have a nice day dear

There isn't any value to keep those journals. Frankly only the foregoing pages of every journal were fully used I scared someone might sneak a peep on what I was expressing, especially about emotive matters in my journal that time. But lovely moments kept in our heart would fade gradually as time goes by. I have lots of photos taking in different time to hold the past sweet moments. Every single photo has its unique remembrance. Hi dear I believe we all have the same wishes that our family and we would live a happy and healthy life. Wish you a happy and prosperous year of 2011

Hello my dear, Happy New Year to you. I hope you have all those lovely journals with you now. Don’t you feel funny to read all those now? (ha ha I would have lost a lovely friend here if you followed your resolutions in your younger days). I don’t have the habit of writing anything in diaries. I prefer to keep all lovely moments in my heart so that nobody can read it without my permission (lol) I am glad to know about your present life style and you deserve a happy, peaceful and healthy life. I wish you to get all those you desire in this year. Once again, a wonderful New Year to you and your family. Take care.

Sree ! Only 'celebrities' make new year 'Resolution(s)' , they make it for the sake of media and press because media invariably ask them to tell about their resolutions and this way they get free publicity too. No media person comes to us and ask about our resolutions, therefore, we do not make or disclose........lol! I do not make any 'New Year Resolution' because 'promises/resolutions' are made to be broken.. In your words - "I enjoy life, as it comes". Very Good and intelligent Discussion!

Hi Buchi! I have been keeping busy due to office work, therefore, I was absent. Thanks for your wishes. Happy New Year to you and your family, as well. You said it rightly - Sree's discussions are 'exclusive' and like 'designerware'. She applies lots of her mind, before starting a meaningful discussion and she gets lots of responses too.

Hello dpk and Buchi, Thank you very much for the appreciation. If the topic is easy to respond it is natural to get more number of responses and I don't deserve any credit on that. The credit goes to you people, who are spending their valuable time for me. I do take a chance to express my gratitude to my entire nice friends/members here. Regarding the topic, yes I agree media people are showing much interest to get more publicity. At the same time, phone-in program in TV is asking to common people (of course who are spending time to make a phone call) at the time of New Year. Thank you so much again Deepak, have a lovely year.

No, I don't think it is necessary, and certainly not compulsory to make a resolution in the New Year. I certainly have not made one, but I have an intent to get more organised with my work, but that's it. I will maintain that, but I don't consider it a resolution, it is a decision that just happened to come as the New Year did. _Derek

Hello Sreekala, :) Frankly speaking, a new year doesn't bring any change in me. I just see it as a time to wish others a blissful new year, and nothing else is going to change. In fact i was almost about to sleep at 11 O'clock and miss the clock tick at 12. I thought i would joke around, saying my new year's resolution is to get to bed early and so i slept at 11, lol. Anyways, i have tried to make new year's resolution as a child but never got around anything fruitful, so i just gave it up. I think it takes a lot to shake me. Oh, happy new year by the way.

Hello voldrox, Happy New year to you. hmm you forget to wish me a happy new year, ok fine. My question, Is there any change in the new year day. No, it is a day like any other days. The only thing is how we treat the day. I slept after wishing new year to special people in the midnight itself. Morning I wished those who slept early in night (lol). Have a wonderful year.

Hi Sree, Happy 2011. For me, I do not have any "new year" resolutions. I believe in living one moment at one go. Blame it to my illness or my way of thinking but this is what I am. I was, when at college, into resolutions at the start of the new year... buying a new year dairy, writing out those and then over the days... watch all of those promises and resolutions go unfulfilled and the last days of December I would end up OMG I did nothing that I planned Now, it is different. I have just one goal - spread love and bring smiles on at least one face per day. Short, simple and a goal I really wish to achieve. Just because I found happiness and satisfaction in getting this or even trying to get this done. Cheers, theSids.

Hi dear, If we follow the resolution properly, it is always advisable. Especially, in these days, it is a must and it will give results also. Time has changed a lot and having a plan and move as per the plan is always great. We may think of freedom and openness. If we have such some order or setting, we can make them to work and thing will get done easily and we can direct the life in such way more simplified easy going. There should have a few annual goal, some half yearly goals, and appropriate monthly or short term goals. These yearly goals can be achieved by completing the small terms plans and if we work out properly and plan with a broad criteria, it will be easy. I am not thinking on a governmental way of plans. It should fit in our own matters. Especially, financial side, things to be done in one year time, how to manage the funds, if married, or to be married, the plans, how to implement, what all the sources to be used, best time to start and stop, how good it can be implemented, etc. Vision also important. We should have a clear idea of what to do. Make the necessary arrangements for it. It can be done to everyone. For students, house wives, officer staff, professionals, all individuals who has a clear vision and scope, as per their own convenience. In my resolution, the first one is cut short of expenses. All extra vegans and unwanted expenses have been abandoned. Divert the fund and money in a small savings and all excess money can be saved. Now we are in a high level competition and we really required hard cash at hand. Once we are sufficient with our expenses, do not go for any additional or unwanted shopping, purchases, trips, parties, movies, which are highly expensive. This long visions and concentrate on more specified areas and all junk should be throw out and can live a clear agenda and move accordingly. I think if we have a good outlook and clear mind on our vision, we can easily achieve it. I have decided and planned everything. No need to wait for a better time and all, after all it is for our own good only, and not for anyone elses. Thank-s

It's not compulsory and I don't make new year resolutions. The last one I made was probably when I was a teenager. I prefer to think of every day as a new year...lol...and make my resolutions as and when necessary! But it's all in my head and I don't tell anyone or write it down somewhere.

Hello SV, I don’t believe on theory but I like those who can make the resolutions in practice. There is no need to write down your promises or tell the same to anybody but implementing the same is important. I too never made resolution for the sake of a resolution. (lol) Thank you so much dear.

I do not make any resolution at any time. The situation, circumstances and moods will direct our acts and resolution hardly stands firm on those occasions. If people are able to take resolution and follow it later, it is well and good.

Dear friend, I do hope it is easy to take Resolutions but to fullfill it what is really wanted. I never had any resolutions in any of the new year.
