Skype ban.

I have heard that the popular internet telephone service Skype may be banned by the Chinese Government as it is going for a crackdown on illegal ‘Voice over Internet Protocol’ (VoIP) telephone services and the ban may be treated as a part of it. I think the ban will affect a large number of users worldwide directly or indirectly? What are your reaction as well as opinion?

I really fail to understand as to why some Govt. up to ban such and such site. If other countries are using without any problems why can not China do?

Only China can answer why they cannot do.

I think it is because China is a one-party country. Just wanting to ensure its people bend to no other party.

that news is disappointing, as my daughter spends several months each year in China and the way we stay in touch is Skype.

Sadly, I am sure this will affect many people, more than just those in China. Students studying abroad there will have harder times talking to their families, for example. It's sad to me sometimes thinking about how China reacts to the free-flow of information.

I think this is terribly sad. I don't like this one bit. It feels as though China is trying to cut itself off from the outside world. I'm sure this will affect many people who use Skype to communicate with others who aren't in the same country as them.

I have heard of the service but do not use it, I do know of one person that loves to use it. If the Chinese govermnet decieds to ban it or strictly reagulate it I am not suprise becase the goverment there feel so threated by the free flow of information that could bring down there system. I do point out that googgle pulled out of China and there are some activiist tring to break thur the firewalls in the chinese internet.

Why will they ban those things? It is one of the peoples need specially those people who are far away from each other. They must not do that.

I really hope that this is only a rumor because it will have a bad effect on me. I have a Skype account and sometimes I like to take advantage of it to make a PC-PC or PC-phone call. The prie is cheaper. I can understand that this will affect the profit of China Telecom. And this is why they will have such an action. It just wants to protect their profit. China Telecom already makes a lot of profit since it doesn't have a competition. No matter how good or bad it is, we have no more options. I really look down upon to this news. Shall our government gives a little advantage for the people? I love China

Well, China banned Facebook last year. Guess what, now Facebook created a special Facebook-China. I heard that China is also having a special Skype-China now. Both are said to be monitored by the gov.

I agree with you that the ban will affect alot of people. Skype was a good service and it should be left alone. Chineese governement and other governments too make find others means to get money, espcailly concentrate to collect taxes rather than banning a very good service for ordinary people.

It is not a big deal to ban the Skpye in China since there are so many other free internet telephony services available in the market. However, I personally feel banning the Skype in China will casue many inconveniences to many users all over the world because they get used to this service in their daily life. Once it is banned, the Chinese at China will miss the Skype very much and the users at other places will miss something in Skype.

I have no idea about the rules of internet protocols but skype for me is a wonderful application and gives me the chance to get in touch with my family at home because I work abroad
