Has Pat Robinson lost his mind?

After reading an article about statements Pat Robinson recently made on the 700 Club - that is the only conclusion I can come to. His mental health must be slipping. Here is the article - "Pat Robertson: Snow Is God's Way of Punishing Americans Planning To Drive To Do Something Gay Andy Borowitz VIRGINIA BEACH (The Borowitz Report) -- Rev. Pat Robertson sparked controversy in today's broadcast of his "700 Club" program when he claimed that God created the blizzard currently battering the Northeast "to punish Americans who were planning to drive to do something gay." Explaining his theory, Robertson said, "Because of the bad road conditions the Almighty has made, any gay activities that people were planning on doing will have to be postponed by a day or two." Additionally, he argued, God shut down major airports in the New York area "so that people who were hoping to fly to do something of a gay nature would have to take a train or a bus, so it might be days before the gay thing they were going to do could occur." As for the millions of straight people in New York City who were also grounded by the bad weather, the televangelist said, "I think God probably wonders: If these people are really straight, then what are they doing in New York?"" Now a lot of religious leaders do condemn gay people and Pat Robinson is no exception; but, to claim that God sent this storm to delay people from doing "gay things" is just plain stupid. If God was actually going to interfere with gay people, he wouldn't just send a storm to "delay" them from committing gay acts. Actually, the storm snowed a lot of gay people in together - no need to travel for "gay activities". And, then, when asked about the other people caught in the blizzard; he basically called every man, woman, and child in the city of New York - gay. If I lived in New York City and was not gay; I would be really upset with Mr Robinson. I realize he is getting old; but, it may be time for Pat Robinson to step down from his pulpit. If his mental health is deteriorating and he cannot make some sense when he speaks from the pulpit; comments like this will only hurt his ministry; not help it.

If that was the case God would have done something to the south also because I know of plenty of gays who live there also. I guess he never read "For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust". Pat Robinson is just another money grubbing televangelist doing whatever to grab attention and get his ratings up to earn more money. Was that too cynical?

Personally, I think if you asked the average person what city in the US has the most gays they would say San Francisco. "Pat Robinson is just another money grubbing televangelist doing whatever to grab attention and get his ratings up to earn more money." - I have to both agree and disagree with your statement. He is a "money grubbing televangelist"; but, one who was in full control of his faculties would have said this was "God's warning" not that God was trying to delay their gay activities and then called all the residents of the entire city of New York gay! "Was that too cynical?" No. My husband says there is a special place in hell for televangelists and they are taking advantage of God and the Bible to legally steal from people.

It does seem Pat is going off the deep end. The sad part is that there will be someone out there who will actually believe what he said. It generates hate quietly, now doesn't it???

Exactly, it generates hate! And then, he and the other religious leaders sit back and claim they had absolutely nothing to do with the bullying and harassment of gays across the US. But, when people in positions of authority say things like this, gullible people who were inconvenienced by this storm are likely to strike out (both verbally and physically) against the people who they now believe are responsible!

I think the snow being a means to deter gays is truly one of his most bizarre ideas. Probably the rest of his hour on the 700 Club was spent of asking for money. I have stopped watching his show because not one day goes by that he does not have some tale to tell on tithing and how wonders happen to people who tithe especially when they are flat broke.

I agree - it is totally bizarre that he would say something like this. The only problem is that he has a lot of gullible followers who will actually believe him. (If he didn't he wouldn't be making tons of money and living the lifestyle that he and his family do when many of his followers are busy trying to scrape together enough to barely support themselves and him).

At yet another 700 club show Pat Robinson suggested Haiti’s earthquake might be the result of a pact with the Devil. How would he explain 9/11? Was that because of a past pact with the devil aswell?

Haiti's earthquake was just a year ago and now this. Like I said, it sounds like his mind is deteriorating and he is becoming delusional. I think it is past time for him to "retire".
