I found a check in my mail box for $2500. It was from a bank in Charlotte, North Carolina. The check looked very legitmate. There was a note enclosed stating that I had won over $275000 in the state lottery. The $2500 was for legal fees to have the money transferred to my account. I did not know what to do so I deposited the check into my bank until I made up my mind what to do. Wrong move! What do U think happened next?

What happened next? Two weeks later, I went to the supermarket to buy some groceries. I had already checked my balance online to make sure that I had some $$$$. When I got to the cash register my debit card was void. I called my bank, they told me that they had placed a hold on all of our money because the check was Bogus! I had to release the value of the check in my account so that our funds would not be placed on hold. My hub was furious! But he was the one who told me to place it in the bank in the first place. I called the people who sent it to me. I told them that I had never played the lottery, and why did they send me a bad check? Guess what happened next????

Why did you deposit the check? If you knew you had never played the lottery, why would you think you could have won money from a lottery?

Wow, I guess that's just further truth that if something seems too good to be true it probably is... but I would have been tempted to put it in the bank too. I didn't realize that there were fees from the bank if you deposited a bad check. Surely they must realize that it would be unlikely for you to know it wasn't real!

The bank got you for a fake check. My mother had this happen pnly the store was diffenet it was if she cashed the check and put it into a money order and resend it only to a different location then where is came from she would be able to take $800 put of it. When my mother told me this i was like omg this is money laundring don't do it. She took it to the bank and asked and the bank did an investigation on it. I don't know what the out come was but i'm glade that mom didn't cash it or anything. The check was fake.

You should never accept or deposit RANDOM checks that you know nothing about. It's always a scam.

There are really a lot of scams out there...just remember there is no free lunch. I often received those emails saying that I've won some lottery or someone who needs my account to place some funds (usually big, many millions), but I really don't give a hoot about this. Though money is important, but not everything and this surprises are often fake.

I would have never deposited that check or I would have had it inspected before depositing it to make sure it was not fake. I would have been very suspicious to begin with, especially if I never played the lottery. There are lots of scams out there. It happens a lot with lotterys and roommate situations.

i really cannot beleive anyone would be so stupid as to cash a cheque they do not have a clue who it is from. 1stly why cash it do you beleive you get anythin for nothing comeon. 2ndly why do you think they would not hand deliver a cheque of this amount.
