Getting my van fixed today

Well I dropped my van off last night at the repair shop for them to look at this morning. I got a call from the man who owns the shop telling me what work needs to be done.
The caliper is making the brakes pull he said. Not sure what that means. I also need new front brakes. I also need an oil change. The dipstick tube is all rusted so I need a new one of those. It is possible to get one from a junk yard but likely it will be all rusted as well so I will have to get a new one from the dealer. Getting anything from a dealer usually costs a lot :( But all the rest that has to be done doesnt sound like to big a job or to expensive. I need my van by at least Saturday because on Sunday I have to go to a baby shower an hour away. If I dont have the van fixed by then I will have to stay home and miss one of my closest friends baby shower :(

My husband is a Jack-of-all-trades...and it is very helpful if you happen to have a guy friend who is mechanically inclined-so that you have a second opinion on the stuff a dealer tells you...or even do the work for you.
You can save a lot of money with help from a friend. Ans sometimes, the shops see a woman come in with their vehicle and the $ signs are in their eyes.

My ex was kind of a jack-of-all trades EXCEPT for car maintenance lol. He could put in windshield washing fluid and pump gas but I seriously think thats about it. I know even less all I can do is pump gas lol. I have a friend who knows how to fix cars but he does carpentery. I would never think to ask him to fix my car I would just feel like wrong about it. If he offered it would be different though hehe.

Well he makes a ton of money he doesnt need extra money from me. Thats like pocket change compared to what he makes. I feel wrong about asking him to look at my car figuring if he wanted to be fixing other peoples vehicles thats what he would be doing for a living. If we were dating I might possibly ask him to do simple things for me but anything more then like put windsheild wiper fluid in my car I would just take to a mechanic unless he specifically asked him to do it. He is also an awesome cook from what I've heard I would be kind of nervous to cook anything for him because it might not be as good as what he makes and I would be embarrassed. He also doesnt like desserts or cookies or anything so thats out lol.

Well, you could offer to pay him, or bake something for him.
This way everyone is happy....you-for him fixing your car and him-by earning a little extra money.
My husband does a little car maintenance in his garage after his day job and makes a little pocket change.

Hi. shaggin. I hope that you are able to get the things needed fix on your van. I hope that you don't miss your closest friends baby shower. I know that it would mean so much to you to go. I don't like it when having a lack of transportation allows me to miss many things that I have to go to. I hope that everything works out with your van.p

I did get the van fixed it didnt cost to much money and luckily I did make it to my friends baby shower. My kids were crazy wild there though that day :( I wound up having all the repairs done except for the dipstick tube. I just had them tape over the top of it and said the heck with it. I just wont bother to check the oil lol and will just get it changed more often.

Good that your van is getting fixed.
Meanwhile, I still cross my fingers that nothing big-negative happens to my van. So I don't have to shell out a lot of dough to get it fixed.
Although an oil light does come up everytime I get to an intersection, if I stopped.
Hopefully it will all be OK, both mine and yours, before we spend a lot of money at the mechanics.

They couldnt fix the dipstick tube. It was all rusted and rusted through in a spot. When they tried to get the dipstick back in they broke it lol. I dont want to pay for a new dip stick tube because it will be around $170 so I just had them tape over the cap and I wont bother to check to see if my oil is low lol. Which means I will have to start getting my oil changed every 3000 miles or 3 months instead of letting it go like I always do. The cost of the repairs was $241. I didnt think that was to bad for an oil change, new brake line, caliper and front brakes.
