The beat goes on…

back to work after the holidays - back to reality, and work

So, I got through the first day of work yesterday and I was surprised at how quickly people adapted to the normal and regular work schedule. There was a time a few years ago, where the first day back was full of people with holiday-hangovers. People milling around or just catching up on emails without any real work done. At my work, I could count with one hand the people that greeted each other a happy new year. Most worked as if they just saw each other the previous day. So, was it the same as yours? Or do I just work with a bunch of workaholic? No holiday-hangovers at where you at? How quickly did people get into the routine-mode? Don’t you wish you’re ‘holiday-ing’ still?

Oh, Bounce, i still can't change my mind from the holidays I don't greet the others, but i'm in mood to be lazy, to cook simple dishes, to not clean a lot and i even didn't start my real online job, which wants too much attention. Instead of that i spend nearly whole day here enjoying discussions. I don't know why is that, may be the last year was one of the most hard years i have behind me, but i'm still in holidays mood and i am late with my normal schedule. Anyway, i have to start soon because nothing good expect me with that attitude. What i do is to say myself - still there is time to your first payment for the month, so you got around 10 or little more days to change your earnings...

If you've had such a hard 2010, then I think you deserve to take a few more days to take it easy. I know that everyday you don't start is a loss of earning opportunity, but I think the body and the mind deserve a little rest too. Goodluck with your endeavors.

Hello cher913. It seems a bit hard to get back into the routine specially if you've been off since Christmas. Welcome back to reality!

I suppose everyone was pretty much straight back into routine..lol...I didn't notice any holiday hangovers but we don't get a lot of time off this time of year. People didn't have alot of time to party...now July 4th may be a different story.

Well..we do have our holidays off...but the thing is that the winter time is our busy season so we don't get a week or so off. Our schedule is very tight. Some got a little more time off but that is because it was inventory time..lol...no good for me because that is the department that I'm in. I know when I come back from the shutdown in July...it takes me a good week to get back in the swing of things.

Oh! July 4th seem so far away! I guess if you're in the industry where holidays are just part of regular work, then you don't really get to experience a shut down like we did. So there is no re-adjusting to the routine. Thanks Jen!

Really the only adaptation that I had to make with the back to work/back to school thing was that I had to make sure that Kathryn was able to get up in the mornings to get to school and after having had her at home for a total of 18 days and the week before Christmas break started they had a snow day and also a delayed start to a school day, it was kind of a difficult adjustment to make. However, after the first day it wasn't too bad at all. Now if we can just make it through the last 93 days of the school year.

I think that's one of the things that had to go back into a routine. The kids going back to school. They've also been sleeping late during the holidays, so it was also an adjustment for them. But after a few days with late afternoon naps, they've also been in a beat. Thanks.

Could it be because the holidays landed on the the weekends thus affording many more the extra time off of work. So being away for the extra day perhaps gave time to cool off the hang overs and be a bit rested from the grouchy moods.

I could see your point. The weekend-holiday does give it a sense of being normal or just a regular week. As opposed to a mid-week holiday where everything gets turned around. Still, it is a sense of being back to reality!

I know exactly what you mean, as of right now there are still people on vacation, some have called in sick and the ones in the office are still in the celebration lazy mood. I mean don't take me wrong we are doing what we are suppose to be doing, but we still have the mentality of vacationing and taking that small break again. Our brain still hasn't fully accepted the fact that we are back to work. Normally by the second week of January everyone is back to work and in full mode routine and working capacity.

I just completed my first week of work. And althought it was just 3 days this week, I'm still a little tired. Makes me dread next week, which is a full 5 days. And as you said is 'full mode routine and working capacity'. Makes me want to look at the next holiday. Thanks.

I know what you mean, this morning I felt like calling in sick, I had energy to get up from the bed, but unfortunately I had to drag myself out of bed and came into work, now it's almost time to go home and I am so looking forward to the weekend YAHOO!!!

hi bounce just imagine retirement like one perpetual holiday without the nice bonus of a pay check. I got so teed off at life without a job to go to that I found mylot and began to make some wonderful friends whom I really do care about and earned money while doing it. I have become a mylotaholic for sure. OH and I learned once again that making new friends from all over the world is just so gratifying its unbelievable. So many Americans like myself love meeting people from all over but we have no funds with which to travel. now we just hit our keyboards and off we go to Malaysia or Borneo or Thailand or Scotland or England or Greece. and on and on al over this small world after all. The song is right. It is getting to be a small world because the net brings us all together. Some of my friends are very special people with their own burdens but they do shoulder on.I have learned so much from all them and I hope maybe I have also helped them too.

I think the part of my life which is dedicated to myLot is something where I could definitely say that the beat does go on. There is no holiday or off day here, so discussions just keep on going. And yes, once in a while we are indeed brought to exotic destinations, while being in the comfort of your home, in front of the keyboard.
