I think I am addicted to metaphors and idioms

I always try to keep my English as simple as possible but whenever i get carried away I have tendencies to use a lot of idioms and metaphors, which caused a lot of misunderstandings many times. I dont know if it has something to do with reading too much. The struggle is not only in English, I also have tendencies to use deep statements in my own Languages too. It really weirded many people but i am just being my self. I have a freaky Artist personality that rubbed some people in the wrong way. Oh, here I go again.

Yes, I have a tendency to do the same thing. It usually results in blank looks and incomprehension when talking to less well read people and I find myself having to explain what I mean which rather defeats the object. But on the other hand, it can be a delight when talking to someone who shares your linguistic skills. Almost like a private language!

I also have the blank looks, Their eyes are usually wide open and they were kinda clueless and confused. When I see that body language I will try to tone down my language and make it more basic again. But there are times when someone is more intelligent than me, instead of being confused, The person is feeding my hungry mind instead and it feels good when someone is feeding your mind. yeah its like a private language but its better than ghetto talk, gaylingo, LOLCAT talk and other trash language being invented on the internet.

My pet gripe here is when I see people writing using texting language - you know the thing "u" for you and "ppl" for people and so on. When I see posts written like that I just skip them as I can't be bothered trying to decipher whatever they are trying to say.

Reading these my eyes are breathing a sigh of despair -- Maybe I would have been better advised to keep this powerful metaphor for myself -- !

hi captalbertwhisker! i think this will be my very first response with your new account...at last you finally get rid of your old account and your inactive up line hehe and hopefully of trolls! lol! back to your topic, well for me there's nothing wrong about it and in fact i admire people who can use metaphors and idiomatic expressions naturally, how I wish I could do the same. It might really cause some problems when you are talking to someone who's not into those kinds of speeches, which reminds me of what happen to you and your responder in one of your discussion in your old account...hehe well, well I guess its no longer your problem that they don't understand you but there are really some situations that we need to talk in the most simple way in order to deliver what we really mean to be understood by people we are talking with... by the way, happy new year!

its okay, so much work after the holidays? well its a good thing that people are learning, i think the longer we stay here and read, the more we can learn, like me, i admit that i am not really good in metaphors and other artistic way of talking but i try my best to learn more and understand hat the other person is trying to say... anyway, i also don't like those textspeak (but i also use them at times...hehe) and jejemon...haha

Sorry for the late response, My Job uggh... I was mentaly drained in the last few days. I'm happy though that less people took things literally now, I have a discussion were I sue terms like Threw under the bus and stab in the backand thankfully those terms are popular nowadays, they get it. I actually wish people will use them instead of the "lol cat language" gaylingo, textspeak and jejemon. people should be talking more artistically and less trashy,.
