I have been dealing with a lot of drama queens lately and I am about to lose my mind. How do you deal with a drama queen when you just don't feel like you can tell them to cut the crap, either because they are your supervisor at work or family? I am generally a very calm person but I feel like I am going to blow a gasket soon.

Just ignore them. They act out because of a warped need for attention, and/or because they hope to get you upset so you will make a mistake that they can use against you, so by giving them any attention that just feeds their sickness. If you feel it is necessary to respond to them, as if it is a supervisor at work, then the best way is to use verbal self-defense by merely validating their position. If they are carry on, you simply say "I see you are upset" and leave it at that. If they tell you to do something unreasonable, you merely reply something to the effect of "I understand that you are of the opinion that I should do (...whatever it is)" -- but you don't have to commit to doing it. Or you can ask "Are you of the opinion that I should do (...whatever)" They are just trying to get a rise out of you. Don't rise. If you have to make a statement just calmly state facts. "I cannot work late tonight" "I would need more notice if I were to do that" "I see that you are concerned about....whatever." "I see that you have not had time to think this through." "It is clear to me that you want to discuss this, however I need to be somewhere else right now." Good luck.

Keep your cool, just ignore them and do your thing alone and best. They will get stimulated if you'll mind them. Play dumb, deaf and blind to them!

Well, in my case, my sister eventually moved three hours away.

I guess you just have to get used to it,probably play along, or just ignore and remain calm. Whatever works, they say. I'm sure you'll get around,if not along.

I am not sure what kind of person is a drama queen. She who always wants the top role in everyone's life? Well, I have a friend who always dramatize her stories. When she wants to tell a story of her boss or her boy friend, she would only say one line of sentence and pause for effect or a respond. Example: She: My boss is becoming difficult (pause). I: How so? She: There's been stories about him the in the company (stop) I: Oh. I: What stories? (a minute later) She: There's this story circulating on these departments (stop) I: ? I: ?? I: ??? Why did she bother to tell a story at all?

I am not sure how to tell you this since i am such a drama queen too. The only way to deal with drama queens is to ignore them. They will just calm down when people stop giving them attention. Or just give them what they want! Sometimes drama queens only need attention. So if you just give them that they will stop. But i think the best way to deal with them is to ignore them at all cost.
