From Analog to Iphone

Do you remember the time when our telephones were those that you have to literally dial each number? How about the pager/beeper? Or the walkie talkie? And when the dawn of mobile phones came, owning a Nokia 5110 made you look like you're the coolest person in the world? It was so simple then. Right now, new mobile units are being developed everyday. Back then I used to think that what if our ringtones are actual songs? Now it's just cliche. Smartphones are everywhere. Competing which one has the better operating system. Which one has the best applications. It's good to see that technology has come this far when it comes to telecommunications. What was the first mobile unit you had? How many times have you changed your unit?

Hahaha! I remember analog phone where you need to buy a card in order to make a call and there's this very long procedure and lots of numbers to dial before you can connect a call. ^_^ My first unit was 5110, a secondhand from my sister. She bought the unit when she was still in college and I had gotten it when I had my first child..^_^ I changed unit as soon as it becomes unusable and when repair is impossible..hahaha! I am soooo poor..^_^

I don't even remember what the model number of my first cell phone was. I got my first one when I turned 18, which was 22 years ago. Now I have blackberry 9700. In between, I must have gone through over 30 cell phones. Some of them I broke, some I lost, some was just plain upgrade at the end of it's 2nd year contract.

My first mobile phone (as we call them) was a Moterola which I got about '89 or '90 or thereabouts. I'm only on my third phone at the moment, which is a Sony Ericson but I don't use it very much and I'm not interested in having the latest "must have" phone.

I don't remember what kind of cell phone I used for the first time. I think Siemens C35, but I am not sure. I just remember the first time I bought my own cell phone when I had my own job. That was in 2002. I bought second hand Siemens cell phone for around $65. That was the cheapest price at that time. I change my phone several times, Siemens than Sony Ericson, some type of Nokia, and currenctly I use Nexian with QWERTY pad. Nowdays, cell phone price lower and lower. The features are more complex and the price are lower. However, I don't have and don't want to try Smartphone. It's not about the price itself. It's about the operational cost. For example, for full Blackberry service we have to pay at least $11. Furthermore, I think I don't need most of their feature. I have my internet connections so, I can do anything with my PC related with internet.

The very first unit i had was a motorola under smart buster and it was analogue of course. At that time there was no Globe in my country yet and Globe was the very first cellphone company that offered sms in my country. I even remembered vividly how they introduce ericsson phone between deaf-mute people on a date. I transferred to globe the moment they introduced the free texting service. Yes it was free then but i got to talk only to three people who can afford to have a cellular phone at that time. I couldn't remember how many times i have changed my phone then since i always get updated with the latest features including the 3g phone and such. And now i am into smart phones.

and by the way, I still use the old and reliable Icom V8 VHF transceiver for some of my communications. I know it is a vintage one, a carryover from the noisy world of "Breaker," "over," and "standby." Isn't it a bit nostalgic to be using it now? I really do.
