Given the chance to ammend the law in your country, what would that be and why?

law - law books and gavel symbolizes the law in a particular country and the gavel is the justice system where decisions are based on the existing law

Not all the existing laws in our country is not favorable or does not benefit the majority. One law in my country that I am not in favor of is that divorce is not allowed. It is ridiculous that there is no divorce but there is annulment. It has been passed in the congress in the past but was not approved by the administration claiming that the catholic church would not allow it. Stupid indeed as how many catholic countries in the world has divorce. Nobody can prevent from couple to separate from each other if the situation is no longer bearable. Since it is a human need to love and be loved, the separated husband and wife will find another partner and they will not be able to get married because divorce is not allowed. However, for the rich people there is a solution, go to the court and file for an annulment of the marriage which costs a minimum of USD 3,000 the cheapest. People who gets trapped in this situation of marriage break up commits adultery if they found a new partner as they are not allowed to marry unless the previous marriage gets annulled. If given the chance, I would legalize divorce in my country.

In our country divorce is also not an option. This is one law hare that needs to be amended. Nobody should be forced to live together if they do not find it convenient to go on. We are bound legally and this is a problem for both persons who wants to go on living their separate lives.

Lawmakers should realize that people are human beings and are prone to mistakes. Lot of people get married by mistake and they should be given another chance to live happily instead of staying together and always fighting. This is not good to be seen by the children.

Hello Hexebella, I haven't known that there is a country where the divorce is not allowed. I don't think that anybody should have the right to force a couple to live together as long as they don't feel anything for each other. Isn't there anything you can do to change this? I mean, not you as a person, but you as a civil society? Now back to your question, it would be difficult to me to choose only one thing to change in the Romanian law. Here there are so many laws that need to be ammended, that it's hard to choose. Maybe the first thing I'd like to change would be the law which is supposed to fight corruption. Nothing is done to stop this scourge and this is something that drag the whole country down.

It's really frustrating that if the marriage did not work out, there's no way to get out of it legally unless one has the money to pay for a petition to the court to have the marriage annulled. This is just one of the laws that I would amend if I will be given the chance. There are a lot more like VAT, other government processes that were so tedious so people resort to red tape for immediate processing of documents especially in the customs and immigration department.
