I do. I have a couple of cooking web sites that send recipes with beautiful pictures and many times they have a step by step thingy that makes it nice to see. There is a site where you can even make a menu and they will tell you what to buy at the grocery. I have never used that though because recipes ususlly are just inspiration for me to do something with what I have. Tv cooking programs are useful too, but I prefer the online sites as I check them when I want and for the time I can spare. How do you do it? Do you use online cooking sites? Do you prefer cook books? Other ways? Share!

Hi marguicha I am a chef that is still and always learning. I graduated culinary school almost 2 years ago now and work on a 200' boat cooking for the owner and his guests on small trips out, usually to the Bahamas and such. I don't work too much in the summer because the boat is docked here in Ft Lauderdale and there arn't a lot of his friends ( and him!) interested in going to Florida and the islands in the summer. But during the winter we go out quite often and I am constantly having to come with 3 meals per day plus happy hour. I rely heavily on the internet. If you looked at my desk top, all you would see is recipe sites! I think I have found just about every one in existance, some better than others. I also love the Food n network and have been watching it since it started, many years ago. I can honestly say that I got my basic skills from watching that network day in and day out and it is what inspired me to go to school. Best move I ever made. Today, I have notebook after notebook of recipes that I learn while traveling. I take lots of notes when eating, especially in other cultures, and try to figure out how to recreate it when I get home. I also love cook books, especially old ones. Whenever I go to a garage sale or thrift store I am always on the hunt for old cook books. I have collected quite a few. Its funny because some of the "old school" ways of cooking are still in use today. Its in the ingredients that I see the biggest changes. i.e. we no longer put lard in everything (with the exception of fried chicken! I find that cooking the chicken in lard is the only way to go!) and the large qty's of meat that used to be seen in almost every recipe. Through education we have seen the light about too much red meat. Actually, too much of anything is never good but I still use heavy cream and butter and white flour, in moderation. Lastly, my very favorite way of getting recipes is a "recipe swap". I am really enjoying learning about cooking in other cultures and any chance I get to talk to people, that are willing to share methods and ingredients, I take it. I have m et lots of people online that love to share with you. They enjoy the fact that you are interested and are very willing to teach you. That too me is the best,,money can't buy that type of knowledge. I have been working on a cookbook for years now but kind of doubt it will ever publish. I don't have the time to put into it what it takes but I have fun with it anyway. If it ever does publish, will you buy one? lol!

We could trade books, if you publish yours and I publish mine. I am a writer and a long time ago I started on a project I have never finished. The idea was to mix short stories with an appropiate recipe. My best cooking ideas come when I have someone special for diner and I want to surprise him/her. I have read a couple of your posts about being a chef aboard a boat and I quite envy you. I was at the Caribbean with some friends in my friend´s sailboat 2 years ago and it was a wonderful experience. It was a small boat and I was part of the crew (we were only friends aboard). We went to Kunayala, at the San Blas Islands in Panama. Awesome! I have leart a lot about ethnic food here at mylot. And I have also found the normal cultural difference in food. Some people are SO afraid to try new things! I love to do that though and it usually ends up in yet another cooking idea. Thanks for sharing your experiences!

I have a couple of sites that do send me receipes then i use mypoints.com and on there coupons they have a tap for recipes and i have printed out a few from there as well. When i want to bake i usually look some stuff up online to make something yummy. I have a lot of printed out receipes from onine that i bought a binder to install them and use that. I do have cook books that i have bought of course. I have some from southern living that are really good but i do believe you can print out some from their website as well. I do like to cook and cook some good meals with different pastas as those are my favorite and i do add things and take out things in receipes to make them my own and how i might like them.

I usually don´t follow recipes but I do when baking. It served me a lot too when I wanted a barbecue sauce to put over ribs. I like to do everything from scratch if I can.

If I need to find a recipe, I tend to search online. I may adapt if if I don't have EXACTLY the right ingredients - for example, I didn't have a bunch of the fresh veggies they wanted for a stir fry, so I cooked up a bunch of frozen I had, then threw them in the last moment and tasted GREAT!

No, but i do have a bunch of personal cooking blogs that I visit regularly whenever I need some new ideas for a recipe. I find it better to hear it from people who have actually tried a variety of recipes and tried to "fix" them, per se, than to read it from an automated system or a cooking channel website.

There are a few websites that email me different recipes and ideas too. I have yet to try any of the recipes they sent me though. I usually will just go online to one of my favorite recipe sites when I want to try making something new.

Very interesting, I do not sign a cooking site, but sign for 'how to' and sometime, reciepes are emailed to me. Many the receipes are too completed or fancy that I do not have money to afford all those food so I just ignore them.
