I'm currently running on Windows 7 starter on my new laptop (Asus) but I'd like to learn Linux. I was told to try the Mint version, but told if I screw up on the install it could leave my computer in an unbootable condition. Does anyone have any experience with Linux Mint? I have a friend that uses Linux but she uses the Ubuntu version. Any advice (besides just stick with windows) is welcome.

i never tried linux mint....now i use ubuntu too but there are other distros as fedora, mandriva for example they are user friendly and affordable in linux enviroment!!May e you can check for other distro too if you had problems with mint and so you can install a linux distro on your pc without problems!! It cna be true on your problem that considering your new pc use windows starter edition i think it can be a netbook so really unpowerful computer and may be you tried to install laptop/desktop version on your netbook and so it won't work from the boots passag because your pc can't open the system!!May be you cna try some netbook version and may be it would eb better...
