TRUE GRIT Fans of Coen brother movies will probably find this one enjoyable. It has the requisite chuckle-moments and absurdly over-the-top characters with deadpan one-liners, although I suppose I found this one a tad less funny (perhaps I may find it funnier once I see it with subtitles. Some parts of the dialogue is difficult to understand, due to artificially heavy accents). There is much Oscar-hype in town about True Grit. Not sure how it will turn out, but I suspect the main female character will get a nomination. Damon is almost unrecognizable and Bridges got a pretty fun role. Production design and costuming is outstanding.

My wife and I saw it this weekend. I'm a big fan of John Wayne and True Grit is one of my favorites. My wife can take or leave The Duke, and it has been decades since she's seen his version. The only reason I bring that up is, both of us really liked the new version. The film stands on its own for those who saw the original and those who haven't. The characters are great! Yes, a bit over the top, but that's part of the fun. I loved how you had a hard time seeing Matt Damon or Jeff Bridges in the characters, but that is a high compliment to the actors and their make up artists.

I really want to make it a point to see that movie. First of all, I love Jeff Bridges. He can play any type of role and make it successful. I get amazed at some of his parts. Now, he won't be no John Wayne, but it's gonna be a hit anyway, I think.
