In my 54 years on this earth I have never heard this one. I have to investigate this further.

That will also cause blurriness to the eyes when you are from internet for several hours then you will immediately take a bath. BUT, there are also some reasons behind that symptoms. If you feel that you're eyes are blurred sometimes, maybe you have a diabetes. My grand mother also has that kind of symptoms and based form medical test, she has a diabetes. Diabetes has many complications especially in the eyes..

Your mother is right. Especially when you are infront of the computer for hours or had been reading. When you have physical work the whole time or that your eyes was strained, take an hour to rest them before hitting the bathroom.

Good Day! I sometimes do that's why my eyes can't see clear. I don't have a good eyesight because I wasn't aware before that I need to rest my eyes but now its too late. I have a poor eyesight. :)

Did your mother say what would be the side effects from this??, I am just interested in know.

I have heard that too from my mother-in-law. But certainly, i didn't hear it from my mother who does not believe on unfounded beliefs, just as i do. I always take a shower after watching the TV though. But i just don't know if it was the cause of my blurred vision, that's why i have to have a reading glass before i can read small lettered writings. But i think, it's more because it comes with aging .

My opthalmologist cousin says there is no medical basis for this superstitious belief. It's all hokum. The state of your eyesight is mostly genetic, that is, if your parents had bad eyes, there is a high probability that you will too. But there are ways of preventing it such as eating the right food and resting your eyes after straining it. Personally, I always close my eyes for a few seconds for every hour spent in front of the computer. Also, get annual check-ups. I am sort of in-between - my maternal line has a history of cataract while my paternal line has good eye genes.

I don't wash my face after using the computer or watching tv or even reading a book. My eyes are exhausted from watching and reading stuff and i think it needs rest before washing it. I believe that it is one of the causes of eye disorders when you don't take care of your eyes properly. Let it rest first before taking a shower to refrain it from getting strained.

I have done absolutely nothing to protect my eyes though. I simply surf the net for long hours, after I got tired with my eyes, I might massage it myself for a few minutes, then I will get back to work again. If I felt extremely tired, I would take a nap for rest.

To be honest I just can't see any real scientific link between being on the computer and getting your eyes wet leading to blurry eyes. Do you really let water run INTO your eyes in the shower anyway? I know I don't. I close them when facing the tap. I have been a swimming instructor for 8 years, and spend a lot of time swimming, and I do not spend an hour not doing any reading/writing/surfing net before every work shift, or I would never get anything done. Sitting too close to the television doesn't hurt your eyes either; that is a myth.

Hello there! Not only my mom but most seniors would likely tell the young ones not to read when the light is not sufficient, do not read while lying down in and and above all do not read when you are in a moving vehicle. But the most common is, keep distance dorm the television for the radiation would cause your eyes to get blurry. You shouldn't wet you eyes as soon as you get up and/or after staying long in front of the computer or any activity which strained your eyes.I have also heard that from many. The reason there actually is that when you keep your eyes wide open for a long time makes it hot and stingy, right? That sensation is manifestation of over usage in your eye muscles that wetting it right away would or may cause strain in your eyes. Like the one you feel when you finish a strenuous activity wherein your muscles was used with great force. So many would advise one not to wet the eyes after using it for a long time without resting it for couple of minutes at least.

I never realized there was such a problem, so I just jump in the shower when ever I feel I need to.

my mother always says that to me,, she always try to scold me whenever she sees me awake at dawn doing projects, or surfing and anything that make me still alive,, i know she's right but i staying until that time for me means that something needs to be finished and for that, she just advice me not to stay any longer, that would damage my vision and irritate my eye,, now, i have blurred right eye,, only the left side sees clearly, the right side only clears at near images
