I feel with all this talk of Socialism and Capitalism I think an expert of sorts should be used to show why socialism doesn't work out in any of the countries that currently use it. One of the things I would like to point out is that Socialism in a ideal since is kinda like Communism in that you can't find a single country that is running a pure version of socialism as most if not all socialist countries are Statist which is a completely different thing that Socialism. As Socialism would mean that Worker Unions (The People) controlled the Means of production for the most part and not the fat cat bosses. So worker Co-ops and sorts. So here is a video on you tube that will tell you why Captialism works and Socialism/Statism doesn't http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76frHHpoNFs

Yes, but you also cannot find a country running pure Capitalism, the nearest example would be Victorian England and that lead to gross oppression. Experience, world wide, proves beyond doubt that mixed economies work best all the best urban

This is true, but you have to start with capitolism as a base and socialistic aspects will filter in by human nature. This is also the beauty of having a strong church because it picks up the stragglers but can eliminate a lot of burocracy which leads to things like welfare fraud etc. If you start with a socilism or comunism governmental base it will fall apart.

I believe you are wrong. I'm a socialist myself and i see no reason why it shouldn't work in practice. I myself come from sweden and we have a history of socialdemocracy, a reformatic wing of socialism, and it has given my country great things, like free education for all, free healthcare, great working conditions for all workers in the country, and much much more. But of course it's just as people have already said in this discussion, that there is no example int he world that has ever put in practice a system of pure socialism or pure capitalism, it has all just been mixes with different amounts om this and that. Then it comes down to what we define as "works". I believe that the system currently used by the US dosen't work. Have you ever driven down skidrow in central LA on christmas day, you would understand why. But if you define "works" as keeps the country going, then both socialism, comunism, capitalism, christianism and islamism works splendid. The soviet kept going. The US keeps going, China keeps going, Iran, iraq, pakistan and saudiarabia keeps on going, so in a way it's all working. The real question should be, is it the correct and most fair way to govern a society? I believe that the morally correct and most fair way to govern would be with the best intrest of the masses and with equality and in the end as small social differences between different groups of people as possible in mind.
