It was clear to anyone listening to Sheriff Dupnik's initial interviews with the press that he seemed quite knowing about Jared Loughner. What we found out in time was that Loughner had been arrested a couple of times on drug charges for which he was sentenced to a "diversion" class.
But the good Sheriff revealed something a bit more, something that doesn't quite fit with his theory that political rhetoric caused this horrific shooting rampage.
---(NPR) In the wake of Saturday’s shooting rampage in Arizona, a more detailed picture is emerging of Jared Lee Loughner, the man police have accused of opening fire.
Loughner, 22, who is in law enforcement custody, lives near the scene of the shooting, which killed six people and injured at least a dozen others, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik said there’s reason to believe Loughner has “a mental issue” and described him as “unhinged.” Dupnik said he believed Giffords was the target of the attack.
“As we understand it, there have been law enforcement contacts with the individual where he made threats to kill,” Dupnik said during a press conference Saturday evening. But he wouldn’t say who those threats were aimed at.---
---Arizona Daily Star (Dupnik) said the gunman was a subject of, “some police interest in the recent past,” and he has made death threats in the past, but not toward Giffords. ---
Now the following is not verified as of yet but it comes from a local who claims that the Sheriff's Department had received many calls from different parties reporting that Loughner had made telephoned threats against them.
---Jared Loughner, pronounced by the Sheriff as Lock-ner, saying it was the Polish pronunciation. Of course he meant Scott or Irish but that isn’t the point. The point is he and his office have had previous contact with the alleged assailant in the past and that is how he knows how to pronounce the name.
Jared Loughner has been making death threats by phone to many people in Pima County including staff of Pima Community College, radio personalities and local bloggers. When Pima County Sheriff’s Office was informed, his deputies assured the victims that he was being well managed by the mental health system. It was also suggested that further pressing of charges would be unnecessary and probably cause more problems than it solved as Jared Loughner has a family member that works for Pima County. Amy Loughner is a Natural Resource specialist for the Pima County Parks and Recreation. ---

We can verify that the suspect was known to local police and that his mother worked for the county as it is specified in a DHS memo:
* suspect’s mother works for the Pima County Board of Supervisors
* the suspect has multiple arrests … But no criminal record? Intervention by someone?

If any or all of this information is correct ( and the Sheriff's own words tell us that some of it is) could Dupnik's accusations against talk radio and political rhetoric as the inspiration behind Loughner's actions simply be a way to deflect any questioning of the inaction of his office regarding someone they already had evidence was a danger to the community?

Very interesting information. Thank you. I think any THINKING American doesnt believe this political rhetoric crap. No matter the political affiliation. The man was disturbed. That is a fact. The man shot people. Killed and injured people. These are facts. The Sheriff was aware that this man was a danger to society. That is a fact.
I really do not see the confusion here.

I am happy to report that a poll released today shows that 6 in 10 Americans DO NOT believe that the motivation behind these killings was political or had anything to do with political rhetoric. Chalk up one big EPIC FAIL for the MSM, they didn't convince the public. Guess the people are smarter than the media thinks they are.

The first thought that struck me as I read all this was that if the sheriff did want to take action the ACLU would be all over him. Thanks to them we have millions of homeless people who should be in institutions taking meds and being treated humanely. If the sheriff did act on those threats the ACLU would quickly have him in court for denying Loughner his first amendment rights.
You just can't win in this day and age. Prevent a murder and be sued, obey the current laws and let mayhem reign.

The University Jarred Loughner attend had numbers of complaints that other students was fearful of him. One of his instructor talked to the dean about Loughner's strange behavior in class,he wanted him removed from his class. There was plenty of complaints and signs but nothing was done to get this man the mental help that he needed. The sheriff had more then one contact with him. This sheriff failed to do his job when Loughner told him he wanted to kill government officials. The one and only person Jared Loughner listed to assassinate was congress women Gifford, she was his target. Jared Loughner is listed as an independent, he did not vote in the 2010 election. He was very upset not with Sarah Palin,Rush Limbaugh,Glenn Beck,Fox News, he was upset with this administration messing with the currency and it was not backed by gold. This killer like most all mass killer is a schizophrenics.

He fits the classic symptoms of paranoid schizophrenia, even in the way he started to develop these symptoms in late teens, early twenties.
His problems with both campus police and local police is probably the reason that on one of his youtube videos he declares that all police are unconstitutional.
As far as I know, the Tea Party has not declared police departments to be unconstitutional.
I think the college did what they could by throwing him out, having him removed and notifying his parents that he couldn't come back until he'd had a psych evaluation. His parents did nothing to keep this guy from becoming a danger and they obviously knew he was mentally ill.

Unfortunately, the left is standing right behind him and they're already trying to make laws against our rights. Of course I'm sure they'll try to push it through Congress and hopefully it won't happen. Then again, the current president might try to create yet ANOTHER executive order.
