yeah yeah i know they do get paid anywhere from 18k-50k to carry someone elses child but wow! to use your body to carry life and then give it to someone is remarkable to me. So different from adoption, usually adoption is when a pregnancy is unwanted but to knowingly and willingly help a loving couple have a child, that brings a tear to my eye because i dont know if i could do something like that myself- does that make me selfish?

It's true that no amount of money could pay the surrogate mother but many are attracted to become such primarily because of the money paid and additional considerations. This is what makes them not selfless. We admire them of course.

How do you figure that it is the money?? They have to give up a year of her life and the wear and tear on her body for $20,000? That is only about $1600 a month...I can not live on $1600 a month. And if a surrogate is doing this for the money then she is in it for all the wrong reasons!! Children are my world and I do this for them not for the money!

I thought about making a simular discussion, I think I will with a different spin. Anyway.... I believe I would be able to do this for a family member or very close friend provided they provide the egg. For a stranger I would not be able to do so. I have 2 kids and the feelings involved with preganancy are and were so intense for me. I do not believe that I would be able to just give a baby away that was in my womb for 10 months. That does not make you selfish at all.

surrogates cant be and wont be selfish. coz they are growing other child only. not theirs in any way... they are paid for it but no one can pay for the sufferring the surrogate mother has at the time of the delivery.. any money is insufficient.
in india many women are becoming surrogate mothers to get out of poverty...

Hello,
Iam a surrogate mother and your opinion makes me feel real good! surrogacy is the most awesome thing! I am a surrogate for a gay couple. So they are using an egg donor (not me) and one of guys sperm. So this child that I am bringing in to this world is not mine. I am simply nurrishing, and helping him/her grow to be a beutiful person. And yes I do get paid but it is a compinsation of $22,000 plus any and all expences and travel. Thats the average rate for a first time surrogate. I am not doing this for the money all though it does help. But I also do work for an agency. We find potential surrogates and match them up with couples based on area and personalities and compatability. This is truley an awesome thing for me. I am helpingmiracles and dreams come true.....and that is priceless!!
