So long the inclusion of India as a permanent member of UN Security Council was not possible due to the strong opposition of China. But now it may be taken as granted that this time China will not oppose, rather it would support the inclusion of India as a permanent member of UN Security Council which is going to be extended soon. But China will definitely oppose the inclusion of Japan in the extended Council at all costs for its past sins of militarism and occupation of parts of China. Beijing is also against Germany’s claim for a permanent seat because it believes that developed Europe is already over-represented in the Council reflecting the colonial era composition of the global high table. But any enlargement of the Council without the inclusion of Japan is unlikely to find favour in the USA, the European Union and parts of Africa where Tokyo has invested heavily. So it may be presumed that there would be hot and bitter exchanges between China and the other members. But will there be any fruitful result ending with the desired extension of the UN Security Council? What do you think?
