How many SNOOZEs do you give yourself?

do you go easy on yourself? - hitting the snooze button

After trying hard all last week and yesterday to come early to work so I could also leave early, my body finally gave up and gave in to the ‘snooze’ alarm this morning. And by the time I finally stood up to get ready to get to work, it was about the same time I usually am just driving in the parking lot at work. So, the question is… What is your thought process as you press the snooze button in the morning? Do you go easy on yourself? Do you let the 'snooze' take care of all the zzz’s that you still want (need) in the morning? Or are you sometimes like me that hitting the button is almost automatic that you don’t even remember doing it a few times? How many ‘snoozes’ do you allow yourself? Have you already been late this year?

I am proud to say that i wake-up as my alarm goes off. But there were times, i would be up and about even before it rings. It's because the bio-clock inside my body is already used to waking up the same time every morning even when i don't have to report to work. It works just fine to me because i was never late in the office, making me one of the Perfect Attendees at the office. For that, we are given monetary incentive!

Well, if it were put that way, if there was a monetary incentive, then I would also train my body to wake up early all the time. That incentive would be in my thought process everytime I hear the alarm ring. It would also be a good training for the body to wake at the exact time, all the time. Thanks.

I always hit snooze once. But then when my alarm goes off again my dogs start to whine and eventually will bark to let me know that there is no sleeping in. And I have to get up or else they will wake my husband up. I do not work but do have to get up to get kids ready and take kids to school. So as much as I would love to hit it many times some days the dogs will not let me.

Haha! I like it! That's great that you don't need a second snooze to wake you up. That you have your dogs to take care of that for you. Now the trick is how to teach your dogs to wake you up in the first place, and then your alarm clock would really turn out obsolete. Thanks.

I seldom hit it, but when I do, I don't think I've ever done it more than twice - at least not about going to work, weekends are another matter.

Hello ElicBxn. So you still have an alarm set even on weekends? I would have thought that's the only couple of days that alarms are not necessary. Thanks.

well, I have it set for later, more as a reminder to give the roommate her eye drops apparently I'm the ONLY one with a steady hand!

I just get up. Once I overslept half an hour, but that wasn't enough to make me late. I usually get up before the kids just to have some "me time", and so I just lost out on that.

I wish I could afford that luxury! To be able to oversleep even for half an hour, and still not be late. That would be a great 'me-time' as the house is really quiet too. Thanks dawn.

Well, if I've acquired the ability to completely sleep through the alarm clock and having it blare unrelentlessly while I am peacefully asleep, how many snoozes does that count as? Seriously, I think that I've gotten immune to my alarm clock and there is nothing that I can do to make me hear it in the morning. Not a good thing at all, but since I'm a stay at home mother it could be a lot worse indeed. Kathryn is good about waking herself up and when I hear her I'm able to get out of bed.

Sounds like you need a new alarm clock! Or an alarm clock with a new sound! But that's interesting! That you could sleep through the alarm blaring, but you could here Kathryn if she's up and about. Thanks dorannmwin!

Don't worry about it! I have days like that too. That I don't remember pressing the snooze button. All I know is that I wake up way too late for whatever purpose I set my alarm in the first place. Thanks for dropping by.

Although I would love to have like that, with alternate days off, I think that would screw up my body clock in terms of waking up at a certain hour in the morning. I could just imagine my thought process at the sound of the alarm - what day is it today? Am I on or off? Thanks.

My sleep is not that sound, a sound f pin drop can wake me up and at any time of hr. i Just hate this. i want a sleep like a child who don't bother who came who went out. Just a peaceful sleep. yes i also keep alarm to wake up but before the alarm ring i wake up to see if the clock is working or not.

Hello yogeshdhusa. I guess that would be dependent on what kind of sleeper you are. For a light sleeper like you, then I think the snooze-hits would be a lot. Thanks for the response.

Hi there bounce. I don't really like the snooze option, i tend to let it only once or not at all, before i get off the bed. I shut it off automatically. My girlfriend however likes to wake up with 2 or 3 - 7 minutes snoozes, so she does take her time to do this.

Come to think of it. Having the snooze option defeats the purpose of the alarm. If you want to wake up at a certain time, then the alarm should be enough. And because the snooze button was invented, other people have been trained to have 7 minute-snoozes after the bell goes off. It's good though that one of you wakes up immediately. Thanks.

I can't allow myself even one...lol...I will never get up if I have snooze access. I even went through a time when I had to put my alarm clock on the other side of the room so that I would have to get up and turn it off.

That's a trick I do too. I've resorted to placing my alarm clock on a top of a shelf across the room. That way, it gets annoying when it starts to alarm, and I have to get up to turn it off. Thanks Jen.

I try to always get up when the alarm clock rings. If I hit the snooze button it will prpbably only be once. If I allow any more, i won't want to get up at all.

Hello sender621. That seems to be a common problem. Soon there'll be no difference between hitting the snooze button a few times, and lots of times. Thanks.

My body has an alarm clock preset. LOL.. When I was working I was up a minute or so before the alarm went off at 5 am. Now that I am not employed by a company per say. My body knows to get up at 7 or earlier but never later. When I did use it before, I have to say it defeated the purpose as I was always up. Funny though I never remembered to turn it off before I began my coffee and or toothbrushing and the darn thing would go off causing me to run and turn it off by then it always walk up all others and so happy. I just never remembered to turn it off.

Haha! Same here! As I also am the first one to get up in the morning, I also sometimes cause other people in the house to wake up. Once in a while I wake up before the alarm, but mostly, it's because I get up in-between snoozes. Thanks.

Hi bounce58, It happens with me too, I used to press snoozy for two o three times and my alarm used to be at 5:30AM. Finally I used to get out of the bed at 6:00AM. It was always a problem for me and that half hour used to cost me a lot. Finally I found out a solution to this problem a year ago, and now I get out of the bed as soon as the alarm rings. The solution is to avoid late night parties in week days and getting into bed by 10:30pm. Before going to bed having a glass of warm milk, and sleeping with out any thoughts or thinking about work, friends, enemies etc. These days I feel more energetic and more productive. Hello calpro. Like you, I also would like to be energetic during the day. I also would like to be in bed by 10:30. And I also wouldn't like to think about work, friends and enemies as soon as I hit the bed. Unfortunately, my circumstances right now doesn't allow me to be that way. Thanks for responding.

The number of times that I hit the Snooze of my alarm clock is varied. No matter how tired I am, even though I slept with satisfaction, I often sleep again for more. When I'm not that much tired, I hit the snooze one time. But if I was tired the night before, I'm maybe hitting the button 3-4 times . I'm setting my wake up alarm earlier because I would like to start my work a day with my mind and body active. It also depends on my emotion or the occasion for the day. If i'm excited in a day, I won't touch the snooze.

But there's the thought process I was looking for as a response. When you've got heightened emotions, and you're excited for the day, how does your mind process it? How long before it registers that you have to get up right away, before the other thought process of hitting the snooze immediately? Thanks.

It depends on how tired I am. Some days I don't even realize I've already hit snooze a few times, then somedays I am up when the alarm goes off. I set my alarm for 7, so that I can begin waking up and listening for the children. The oldest catches his bus at 7:30, then the other kids start waking up. Typically I have to be out of bed by 8 so I have enough time to have some coffee and check my e-mail before I need to get ready to bring the kids to school and then go to the gym myself. Thankfully my kids are good at getting themselves ready, the older ones get breakfast for the little ones, so my only job is reminding them to brush their hair and teeth, and making sure they're all dressed properly, and telling them when it's time to go so they can get their coats and stuff.

I think that's easy! Unfortunately my kids still can't do that. They still need somebody to wake them up, and get them ready for school. And of course there are somedays that I am the one to bring them to school, as per carpool schedule. So you can just imagine all these things going through my head as I try to wake up. Thanks.

I am not a person who hears the alarm and sits up and are on their way....like my husband. I wish I could do that. I have to hit the snooze button about 3 times before I try to wake up.

I think it's a matter of training too! If you get used to waking up at the sound of the alarm, then you're bound to be like that. And if you're used to hitting the snooze about 3 times, then your body will get used to that too. Thanks.

Well these days I don't really use an alarm clock. For the past year or so, I have been getting up at about 5:15 AM on the dot, give or take a few minutes. My bladder tends to betray me and when I'm up. The alarm clock is all the way on the other end of the room to begin with, although I would imagine that if it was in reach and I could hit it, it would be hit perhaps. Still the point is moot as I am not in that situation.

I think that's a neat trick just the same. To put the alarm clock as far away as possible. So that if you ever want to snooze, you'd have to get up and do it. Thereby waking you up in the process. But I could also drink lots of water before I go to sleep so my bladder will be the one waking me up. Thanks.

Unless I am sick I never hit the snooze button. I always wake up before it goes off.
