My computer shuts itself off suddenly when I play certain games and when I watch videos. I do not have a problem with my computer any other time except for those things I mentioned. No, my computer is not overheating when it shuts off during these games or videos and yes I have enough memory to do these things. I have done some research on the net to see what is causing this problem and have established that the problem is simply that I need to update some drivers on my computer. I have also established that I can update these drivers by going into device manager, clicking on the devices that need the drivers updated and then clicking "update drivers" after that. The problem however, is that I don't know which drivers and/or devices need to be updated. lol. The reason I know I need to update some drivers is that I found in my research that other people had the exact same problem as me, their computers shutting down while watching videos and/or playing games. These people had asked how to solve this problem. The answer given to all of these people was to update this or that driver. However, in all of these cases the person had a different type of computer or a different operating system then me or both. When I look on my own computer, for the device or driver that any of those other people were told to update on theirs, I can not find any driver or device by any such name. I need to know, specifically, what the device or driver that I need to update, would be called on my computer because I have no idea what to look for. I hope this makes sense to somebody. Can anyone answer my question? My computer is a Gateway, NV79 laptop and the operating system is Windows 7. Thanks

Hello, If you are sure that it is a driver problem : have you checked at Windows Update in control panel ? You are looking for a video or chipset driver, I think. have you searched for updates at the Gateway site ? You will find drivers for your notebook here : http://support.gateway.com/product/default.aspx?tab=1&modelId=2385 I can't help more, sorry.

When I go into the list of drivers and whatnot on my computer, there isn't one that is labeled specifically, "video" driver and I do not know what exactly it is called on my computer, that is the problem. Whatever it is called, I am pretty sure that I have one because I was able to watch videos and play games when I first purchased this computer, I have only had the problem with it shutting off during these activities for the past few weeks. Thanks.

I have made a little search at the Gateway site : try the "VGA" driver for your model. Hope it will solve your problem.

After reading your post, I now know why MY computer does the same thing. I was wondering what the deal was! I might not be able to fix it, but at least now I know. lol

First thing you should do is check for available updates using Windows Update on your computer. When you do, you will get a list of updated drivers for devices that are already installed on your computer. Also, you can set Windows 7 to automatically get and download recommended drivers and updates. See this Microsoft link for more info: http://tinyurl.com/2elsmt5
