Let say you were sitting in the couch watching Tv, when suddenly your son/daughter told you his/her ambition. "Mom, Dad I wanted to be a hired mercenary, I wanted to be a hired gun. I wanted to be paid for paying people" For sure its a shocking ambition but a friend of mine got that statement when he asked his daughter what she wanted to be when she grows up.
lets say your child already grow up and he/she wanted to be a hired killer, Are you going to be supportive with their life long dream?

I am playing roguelike games since twenty years. My last avatar is "one of two children of a Dwarven Bandit". As a professional dwarf Bandit I would not appreciate that my son became a honest professional assassin, but I am a liberal father : if it is his calling...

speaking of assasins the Ninjas and the Russian spies I think were the most notable assasins in the action genre, they just badass, I wish i can be like them. You know climb walls and jumping off buildings.

I remember,In a child pageant where my niece join, The host called a little girl who is a participant ugly because she doesn't have enough teeth at the question and answer portion. Then when the girl picked her question. "what do you wanted to be when you grow up" she answered "terrorist so I will make your head explode for calling me ugly"

How old is this child? Young or teenager? Anyway, I would hope that I had taught my child about morals before it could come to this. If not, and my child did say something like this, I would tell him/her about how killing is wrong and hope to persuade them to change their mind.

what if the child is already passionate about it? as in they were undergoing some training without your knowledge and you just caught him/her in act?

Tell her that if she trains really really hard she can be whatever she wants. But there is a lot of extra hard work and chores involved. She would have to be amazing at science and math would need to change her name to Rodrigo learn how to clean up blood and study the power of different kinds of detergents. She would also need to save up all her money (which would mean giving up toys and candy) because she would need it to by weapons. She would also have to hold off going to the bathroom cuz she's have to sit for several hours waiting for her target to arrive. She would also not be allowed to have any friends because you never know who might rat you out. She also needs to be 7'8 and swing on trees. And hitmen might come after you. Then tell her what prison would be like if/when she gets caught and how boring it is to sit through several court hearings just to appeal your case, and inevitably be thrown back in the slammer anyway. And in prison YOU DON'T GET A PUPPY!!!

OMG, No puppies at prison, That could change her mind in the last minute for sure. For sure that is not an easy job and it takes a lot of skill top be dedicated to such career path. The cleaning up part and not having friends for sure will be hard, she wont know who she can trust and cleaning up blood is kinda gross but its necessary to hide evidence.

If my child came to me and announce that he/she wanted to be paid for killing people, not matter what age my child is, I would be very worried. The shooting in Tucson, should be an eye-opener as to what can happen when our children think this way.

I hope you are right. I wonder if the parents of the shooter in Arizona, taught their son right from wrong? sometimes we, as parents, do the best that we can while they are in our care and then they grow up. Their lives, their choices.

i grew up watching violent stuff on TV but it never influenced me in real life because my parents were able to make me know the difference between fantasy and reality. They told me right away, there are no super heroes and stuff. It may help I think.

You know, I actually wanted to be a professional assassin when I was younger cause it seemed so cool. Though I would kill bad people and I wouldn't kill woman and children since I don't have a cold heart.
Of course I wanted to be that because I've watch a lot of action movies and play a lot of video games that have to do in being a Spy and an Assassin and it seems so cool. Though I know killing people is not a cool thing and I probably don't have the guts to kill someone unless they are trying to kill me.
If I heard my kids telling me that, I would ask them why and tell them what I think, which killing people is bad and it's not cool. Just cause your kids want to be a Professional Assassin, doesn't mean they are going to become killers. You just have to teach them what is right and wrong. And lay off the action movies from them. Put more Disney movies.

Good guess, it is Rubi from Wet. I also wanted to be an astronaut also and I am pretty good with math, but yeah. Being an astronaut wasn't going to happen with me. I totally agree with you. Why did they have to put that game on 3DS and not in the game consoles? I guess I won't be getting RE anytime soon since I'm not getting a 3DS just for one game. They should put it also on the PSP and original DS since I have both.

Tobe an astranut, a person has to have a degree in electric engineering,Calculus, computer science and chemistry. those courses needs math. T_T and I have discalcula. LOL My #DS will only have one game. I only play Phoenix Wright in my DS. I have more games in my PSP.

Fits with the avatar, is that Ruby from wet? XD My dream is much weirder as a kid, i wanted to be some space invader or at least an astronaut but I suck at math which is an essential to be one. Action movies makes assasins looks cool but yeah they were people with tortured souls and for sure they cannot sleep at night. Damn Capcom they forced me to but 3DS because of one game....

Absolutely not. I wouldn't let any of my children to take that profession. It is highly dangerous and life threatening. Furthermore, police will also be involved and what happen if they're caught? Their parents would get troubled too. While I support them for achieving what they want / dream but not to this kind of act. I don't want them to be bad, but I want them to success by doing something legal and appropriate.

Isnt it disturbing that in some countries they train children specially girls to assassinate and kill people. I think some countries have reputation to train children to kill people.

That's funny! I won't tolerate my child. Maybe if he's joking its okay. but if not, I won't. I don't want to have a child like that. I'll worry every time for him because I don't want him to be caught because of doing such things. Seriously, I would laugh first but I'll tell him that its bad. Maybe if he's professional its okay (lol) Hahaha! No, I don't want. Its bad. Happy mylotting!

I would do everything that I possibly could to dissuade my child from such a decision. that is not a profession I would ever wish on my child. There would be no future but heartbreak in it. the inevitable would come and I don't think I could bear it.@CaptAlbertWhisker (32760)

Assassins are cold hearted people and yeah no parent will want their kid to be like that even the real assassins them selves. sometimes parents need to watch what their kids are watching because it can influence them.

Hi Captain,
Yes, that is scary but if they have already set up their minds it is not going to change... I would try of course to dissuade them but if still their preferences dont change... maybe the Army is a better way out...
But if they do take up the wrong sides, then the only way I see is to disown them legally, and cut off all relations with them - I dont want others in the family suffering due to their acts... I know this is easier said than done, but the chances are 99% - As a parent I have to take care of those in the family who are right and on right paths.

I think a lot of soldiers and cops said they entered such professions because they wanted to be superheroes and that is the closest things they can have, which is understandable. When kids grow up for sure parents will kinda lose influence specially if they moved out.

This is what tv does to kids.
I want to be a professional assassin too- they just look so cool and I'll just accept payment to kill the bad guys.
But I can't live with the guilt though, so that's just one of my dark fantasies. I'm sure your child would change his or her dream once he or she grows up. If they don't be totally against it- just be a police.

Yeah being a cop or a soldier is the closest thing they can get without being againts the law. Kids who wanted to be pirates might end up as sailors, Things can change as they rich maturity and they end up pursuing something more realistic.

I would be proud. I would be very proud and would immediately support this dream.
Of course, I'm kidding. What I said here is an example of the influence of TV and other media. Meaning, they only think this way now because of what they see or hear on media. When they grow up a little more, there's a big chance that they'd start seeing things seriously.
Well, if not, then some counseling is in order, I believe.

I think with right guidance those violent stuff on Tv wont influence children, i think if parents will make them have dreams that is more realistic.

I would use what they call reverse psychology. When your child says they want to become a professional assassin, chances are its just because they watched a movie and it looked like fun. Show them a movie with the real gore of assassinating someone and when you ask them if they're sure that's what they want to do, they may change their mind. It sounds like the child just doesn't know the real meaning behind the job so they just need to be made aware of it.

and there is also chances they dreams will change because when i was a I kid I wanted to work for Nasa and be an astronaut but when i realized that I dont have the intelligent capabilities of a scientist, I let go of the dream. so yeah things will change.

The girl ended up having a crazy ambition like that because her dad let her read Deadpool comics, Which is a supervillain/anti-hero who was an assassin and he have some sense of humor. Its really weird to hear it out of a child.
