Which Scenrio for My Story?

United States

Okay, I have rewrote a story three times, and now I am unsure at which plot I want to go with. So I'm asking you guys for help! I'm not going to tell you the whole plot of the story, it's not important to what I'm asking. I just want to know which of these 3 scenrios you would be more intrigued to read about... 1) A group of highschool friends (ranging in grades) that includes the popular jock (who is an extremely nice personality and down to earth guy), his girly girl girlfriend, his best friend (a 'nerd') and I'm not sure who I see as the 4th person yet. They take a trip on jock's smaller, personal yacht, which is how they get stranded. This story would include in it 2 dogs--the nerd's large Great Pyrenese and the girlfriends little dog. 2) A large yacht for hire take 3 different families on a trip. The families are a father with 2 sons, a mother and daughter, and newlyweds. The families, along with the captain and crew are stranded. This story would also include 2 dogs--the boys large German Shepherd mix and the daughters West Highland Terrier. 3) An cruiseliner has a crises at sea which strands the surviving passengers (about half the total). This story would include 1 dog--a little boys german shepherd. I just want to know what group of people you would most like to read about...thanks!!!

honestly, I would wonder why a cruise would allow a dog on board unless its a service dog... I would say that really none of those scenarios appeal to me, but I think the first one might make a good story - horror I'm guessing - but would appeal to the younger crowd - maybe the "Twilight" group...

Are you just referring to #3 about the dog, or all of them? I believe dogs are allowed on cruises...but if they aren't I think there would be a cruise out there that would allow them. But you still bring up a good point and I'll research that if I go with #3 to make sure it's accurate! I'm not sure I would call it a horror...maybe more of a thriller. But I don't see my story being ANYTHING like Twilight lol. Thank you! *Can you tell me why you don't really like any of the scenerios? I appreciate constructive critism, so you can be blunt! :)

I'm only referring to #3 about the dog, I have NO problem with the dogs on the other boats! And I don't think it would be a romance like Twilight, just would more likely get a younger crowd, the ones that have just rediscovered the joy of books thru things like Harry Potter and Twilight. I just really only like science fiction, and "cozy" mysteries, and funny romances. And Sherlock Holmes... lots of Sherlock Holmes!

Okay, well I definitely will research that! Thank you for bringing that to my attention!!! With this story I'm actually looking to attract older teens - adults. I'm hoping that I can write something that almost everyone can enjoy!

It depends Lily, if the second one includes a romance between the father and mother, then that is what would interest me. If not, then the third one, a boy and his dog I think always makes a good story...

I did not intend to write a love story between the mother and father of different families. The mother in the story is a snobby type, spoiled and selfish. The father of the boys is the exact opposite. Well, there is a boy with his dog in all 3 scenrios ;P lol Thank you!

Oh then I'd definitely wouldn't be interested in the mother and father one..Yes the boy and the dog are in all three, but I still like third one better...:)

Well the airline crashes have been have been done so have the ship wrecks but the one with high school age kids have yet to be written that I know of. Truth be told I actually like the top 2 more then the last one. Best wishes on your stories.

Yeah, I don't have any interest in writing anything with a plane crash right now. I don't like flying, so that would be out of my comfort zone! lol Your answer was the same as my friends, she didn't like the last one much either. Thank you!

I like all 3 scenarios but I am having problems in deciding between number 2 & number 3 as these are my fave...I think I am leaning more towards scenario 3.

I am getting so many different answers for this! I'm kind of surprised, I thought people would overall prefer one over the other, boy was I wrong! I guess it's all about different people's reading preferences! Is there any certain reason you are leaning towards #3, or it just sounds the most interesting? Thank you :)

I guess I am leaning more towards #3 because it sounds more interesting & I think I would be more inclined to read the story as a whole rather than peruse it.

I would probably choose the first scenario that includes high school friends. I think that with it, you have more room for variety since high school is the defining moment of a person's character. The different personalities of these teenage friends could actually make surviving in such situations could make it exciting. As long as the plot won't be too cheesy since the characters are in high school, then it would totally be something worthwhile to read.

It is NOT a drama filled, cliche cheesy high school story lol. I never thought about the high school scenerio the way you've described it! So thank you for helping me out :)

The first and third both caught my eye. But probably I would go with the third one. Not sure why, just something about it seems 'right'.

I'm 58 and i love thrillers and the first two scenarios really appealed to me. I'm glad there's no romance between the mother and father in scenario too...that would just be too trite in my opinion and send the story right to the dull box along with plot 3. Both the scenarios I've picked have lots of room to expand stories and add some twists and turns in plot 1...and a lot could develop in a sub plot, if there is one, between the newly weds in 2. Good luck.

Absolutely, I was thinking of something sinister and twisted developing between the newly weds that they have not been previously aware of. They could be happy and loving to start, sure but things can change. Don't let them be dull and ordinary, let the characters shine even if they both have a wacky sense of humour...lol.

oh no no! LOL It's not a story like that. Believe me, the plot of the story is not dull or ordinary. My newlywed guy is going to be the heroic type...that's sexy lol

Awesome! Thank you :) Wow, I think you are thinking farther ahead in my stories than I am!!! lol. I don't know if you were hinting at something bad between the newlyweds, but I want them to be a very happy, loving couple.

i would go for the second scenario with the different sets of characters in various relationships. maybe because i'm interested in the exploration and realism of relationships although i'm not sure about the plot and genre of your story, lol. the individual characterization would also be interesting to discover when the plot is unraveled. also, having these sets of characters in a story, i think, would appeal more to a wider audience--families, mothers, fathers, children, couples, professionals, and those who love dogs or any pets, for that matter. i would love to know the plot and genre, and if it's going to tell a unique story (sort of sub-plots, i guess) of each family apart from the obvious problem of being stranded together. you have interesting scenarios here, lily.

Thank you for your input! I agree that having good character development is interesting in a story. And it woul dbe interesting (even for me) to see how the characters react with each other in the situation they are thrown in. I don't think the whole general plot of my story is unique, but I definitely think it'll be possible for me to make it my own and entertaining for others. Lets just say when they get stranded they find out pretty quickly that they aren't alone...lol

All three scenarios sound like great reading! I would be most intrigued by the cruiseliner plot. I think a lot of adventure and excitement could be played out with that kind of storyline.

Awesome! Thank you for your input. The cruiseliner plot would also have a few different people it would follow. I guess I should have mentioned them too. I'll just tell you them here now... Single mom with baby Man in wheel chair with his assistant Captain's son with little boys dog (which he finds) Captain Captain's Second in Command All those characters that are on seperate lines will be seperated on the island. Also, I'm deciding whether or not I'm going to have bad guys the cause of the cruiseliners sinking, or have it be just a tragic accident...if I go with scenrio 3 I may have to make a discussion about that dilemma lol Thank you!

Wasn't there a cruise liner that just had a crisis at sea recently? I'm sure it wasn't as tragic as your plot is going to be, but I guess I pick the third one as it would be more relevant based on that similar news story. Anyway, goodluck!

I'm not sure if there has been anything like that. i haven't seen anything on it. But if it's true maybe it would be in poor taste to write something similar to a real tradegy? Thank you! :)
