hai guys, even iam not juve fans, but i think this duet (edgar davids and zidane) os one of the best duet in seri A in mid 90... they inspire many other duets in other clubs.. davids is holding midfielder and always breaker and helps defenders to be safe.. and zidane can concentrate to attack because no need to defend... thats wonderful works from davids and zidane.. ya, juventus is more powerful in midfielder.... they also had didier deschamps and angelo di livio... whats your opinions guys about this duets??

Edgar Davids to me somehow reminds me of a marauding bull. He is robust in his tackles and is a great defensive midfielder to have. And then you have the genius of Zidane to create that special moment with the ball. I think that was a great team up. Similarly, when Zidane moved to Real Madrid his team up with Makelele was similarly good duet. Cheers! Ram

Yes, actually both Deschamps and Makelele played with the French team. So they both played with Zidane in the national side. Cheers! Ram

I like Juventus, especially when they have Zidane, Inzaghi, Delpiero, Edgar davids play together. Zidane good in play making with davids behind him and del piero after him. Inzaghi plays as a good finisher. They made a lot of goal in Serie A. Happy myLotting

Zidane was, without a doubt, one of the great artists of football. His creative genius cannot be contested. Davids on the other hand was the working man. He made sure no adversary pass him and reach the defenders unchallenged. That is why he was called "The Bulldog". His quick offensive incursions were not to be neglected either. I remember these players with great pleasure and hope some day Juventus will have other players like the two you mentioned... Right now, Juventus is suffering, and the midfield is the spine of a good healthy competitive team.

I have never though about this, but maybe you are right that this was the first duet which is now the prototype of every team. Almost every great team play this way, with two defensive midfielders, where one tackles a lot and intercepts the ball and the other which takes the ball up to the strikers. It is like van Bommel and Schweinsteiger, Xavi and Busquets, Essien and Lampard and the list can continue. I agree, Davids and Zidane were great midfielders, with Edgar doing the "nasty" job and Zidane doing the "magic". Great observation, my friend, I think this is a great discussion.
