Atheists have killed more people in history than anybody else

I heard an interesting statistic: more people died during the 18 months of the French Revolution than during all the centuries of the Inquisition. Furthermore, in the last century, atheistic Communists and "scientific progressivist" Nazis killed more people than ANYBODY EVER. Agree or disagree with this? I agree.

From what I understand, Hitler went back and forth between APPEARING to be both religious and non-religious. This website has an interesting summary of some of his quotes over the years. http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/mischedj/ca_hitler.html I don't think you can fully claim that he an atheist, when later in life he said: "I often feel that we will have to undergo all the trials the devil and hell can devise before we achieve Final Victory....I may be no pious churchgoer, but deep within me I am nevertheless a devout man. That is to say, I believe that he who fights valiantly obeying the laws which a god has established and who never capitulates but instead gathers his forces time after time and always pushes forward—such a man will not be abandoned by the Lawgiver." Also, with Hitler so ambivalent in his views on God, it's unlikely that atheism was a central tenet of the nazis as a group. During his early years of public speaking, Hitler spoke as though he was trying to get a public that believed in God to support his party. At any rate, I agree with the person up above. Linking Hitler to any group of people based on one shared characteristic is at best, meaningless, and at worst, an attempt to stir up hatred toward the group being compared. (Hmmm, that kind of sounds similar to something Hitler used to do.) That line in brackets was a joke; I'm not really comparing you to Hitler. The irony struck me as too much fun to pass up though.

I disagree, its stupid to lump togather a wide range of beliefs than list seperate religons and say that athiests have killed the most amount of people. By that logic I can lump togather Muslims, Christians, Hindu's and so on and say that religon has killed more people.

But you'd be wrong. That's my whole point. People are always blaming religion for the worst massacres, but they haven't actually done the calculations.
