Knee sprain: what to do for first aid?

I got my knee sprain just this day during our cheer leading practice. I have to attend every practice still because I don't want to be out of the pep squad, which will perform this month on our campus. I don't want this to stop me from joining. I don't know what should I do to make my left knee and leg back to normal. I can't perform lot of skills because of this. Even scorpion, tumbling, roll etc, even jogging and walking. Ouch. Help me. I really wanted to join the pep squad. But, it seems like this sprain wants to stop me. What should I do with this?

Boy you really should have a doctor see it. It's not worth causing further injury that will affect you the rest of your life. The doctor can tell you if you need to rest it or push it. Wrap it up - buy a knee brace. That will help but if it still hurts to even walk - you may have something more than a sprain.

I don't do doctors either. I am still nursing a thumb I think I broke in a bike wreck. If I had gone to the doctor it wouldn't have gotten as bad and it would have had a chance to heal.

Do I really have to see a doctor. It seems everyone is advising me to do so. But, oh my God, I don't want to know the result.

For the first 24 hours you need R.I.C.E. - Rest, Ice, Compression (by bandaging your knee), and Elevation (of your leg). This can help suppress the swelling. I also believe you should see a doctor soon to just have your knee checked for any fractures or if it's just muscle strain or sprain. Hope you'll be better soon!

I forgot another helpful tip. After 24 hours of the injury, you can put hot compress on your knee instead of cold compress to help the blood flow circulate in the injured area. These are just what I basically know as first aid, hope it helps. Take care!

Yes. Thank you. I hope R.I.C.E. can cure this. I don't wanna see a doctor just because I'm scared of what will be the result. I don't want this incident to stop me. So sad:(

Go see your doctor and then a specialist if necessary. Knees are things that can be damaged very easily and permanently! It could effect your entire life, not just some show.

hi, did you take a warm up first before you practice cheering? maybe your knee just forced to dance, and you need to massage your knees everyday. stretching is a good tools to make your knees back to normal.
