What in the world is going on in he U.S.? Now high government officials are being attacked and shot. Granted the guy was a little off center mentally but the fact is he probably would not have acted out this atrocity (sp?) if our country's leaders had not been so venomous in their public speeches aboit eachother. I live in a foreign country that is a close friend of the U.S. and the people here think the U.S. is "LOSING FACE" in the world and when something like this happens it doesn't hepl public opinion. To make matters worse I see on the news there are proposals on the table now to permit congressmen and women carry a firearm. That's what the "SECRET SERVICE" and Whitehouse Security are for. If necessary hire more people in those positions. Most of all I feel people in high political positions should watch what they say in public like a certain lady whose name I won't mention here. She's is just one of the people that needs to tone down their comments. There are also are several media people who I would advise do the same. When people who are already a little mentally off hear this kind of talk like I have been hearing on the news lately by some leading politicians on both side of the isle those people loose it and feel they have to act on what they percieve the politician to have said. What do you think?

First of all, he wasnt "a little" off center, the guy is loopy. Second, throughout history, politics have been a VERY hot topic. People have attacked and threatened all along. Not just America. Think Roman times... As far as the vitriolic speech, that is not new either. But with the internet, we hear more and more often. The best solution is to turn it off. If it is bothering you. This is what I do. When the speech is simply spewing hatred and nonsense, I turn it off. They have a right to say it, and I have a right to not listen.

Hi "laglen", Sorry it took me so long to see and repy to your response. You hit the nail right on the head! I couldn't agree with you more. In fact I beleive it goes further then the Romans. I believe as far back as the ancient Greeks. anyway I have to agree with you completely. By-the-way they were into coruption and vice too. I guess like forfeathers like modern man huh? Nothing has changed; only the technology makes it instant.

What's "going on" is that a lone maniac gunman set his sights on a Congresswoman and was fixated on her for nearly three years. Unfortunately, he snapped and murdered many people while attempting to murder her. It's extremely unfortunate and I think we all wish that things like these didn't happen. But they do happen. Some people are incredibly unstable. Some people are criminals. It has nothing to do with the U.S. and everything to do with the criminal whose actions cost multiple lives and endless pain and suffering. I think everyone would do well to stand back from it and view it as what it is. There has been plenty of blame and now plenty of "preemptive" measures - all of this stuff is a huge waste. What people should look at is how to handle this type of person earlier, as there were countless warning signs. But again, that's got nothing to do with the U.S. Sometimes you just can't know for sure until it's too late.

For the most part I agree with you however there are other circumstances that have to be considered. For example prople who are mentally unbalanced regardless of their party could do exactly the same thing. What I feel the blame for these esscalating violent events are caused by the public railings of our government officials accross both parties. They use what I call "MOB" PSYCHOLOGY" to control the Americn public. Through the media they bombard the public with propaganda that they know will incite the public to think and act on any given issue. The topics usually are subjects they know will inspire emotion in the public. In other words words our leaders manipulate us under the guise of "PUBLIC WELFARE AND RIGHTS". Unfortunately it has been like that througout history. You would think mankind would have learned by now wouldn't you?

i'm not living in U.S. so i don't really know what is happening there... but i heard the news about the shooting that is happening there and it really upsets me... i agree with you that politicians have to be really careful when they say something so that they won't hurt anybody's feelings and cause a commotion... take care and have a nice day...
