I like to eat rice especially white rice. Few months ego I joined fitness centre to loose some extra pounds. My trainer suggested me not to eat white rice as it gives fat to the body. Altough I haven't eaten rice since a long but I can't leave it at all. Can anyone suggest me how to cook rice so that it becomes less fatty?

Louvill is quite right. Rice does NOT contain fat (unless it is fried, of course). The carbohydrate is converted into fat if it is not used by exercise. It is healthier to eat brown rice than white rice. White rice is almost pure carbohydrate but brown rice contains more fibre. You will find that if you eat beown rice, you will need to eat slightly less because the fibre content 'tells' your stomach that it is satisfied quicker. Everyone needs carbohydrate and you should know that there are different types of carbohydrate. Those which convert into sugars quickly are known as carbs with a high 'glycemic index'; those which take longer to convert to sugars supply energy to the body more steadily and have a LOW glycemic index. Foods with a low glycemic index are, on the whole, better for us. The less processed a food is, in general, the lower its glycemic index.

Hi Owlwings. Thank you for sharing this useful information. Being a health conscious, information about different types of carbohydrate is useful for me. I think I should start researching about other food itmes also. As having more knowledge would be helpful for me in achieving my health goals. Again Thanks. Have nice day.

I was about to add pretty much what owlwings has already added :) Brown rice does taste good too, but I always say that everything in moderation is the best way. Having a bit less rice doesn't have to leave you hungry, if you choose to have a bit less, as you can always top up your plate/bowl with some extra veggies.

Hello dsnachiever, You confused me for a while. All i knew is rice doesn't contain any fats at all.Its only carbohydrates and it will turn into energy especially if your an active person. Here in my country we eat rice everyday in our three meals and some four during snack time in the afternoon called "timu". Since birth i always eat rice in my meals but i never grow fatter than i wanted to be. Happy myLotting!!

Hi Sardonyx. Thats great that u didn't get much fat even after eating rice thrice a day. May be the method I use to cook the rice, makes it fatty. It's time for me to look for other methods for cooking the rice.

You can cook the rice in the same way as you usually do. Rice is a great source for carbohydrate so, you can't just give it up all together. However, there are certain preparations that are high in calorie. In India we sometimes add condiments to make rice more tasty. They used lots of cashew and other stuffs and then fry the whole thing in oil. This tastes really good. But this food has a high calorie value. Ordinary man can take months to digest this dish The main thing that is harmful here is not the rice, but the things that you add to the rice. Just boil the rice in water. Don't use oil or any spices even if it tastes horrible. Add less sugar when you're eating it with milk. Eat plain rice with plain vegetable curry and it's the least fatty dish.

Hi Friend, Thank you for clarifying my doubt about rice. I am a Indian. And used to cook rice like this way only. I will fry the rice in oil and mix cashew and other stuffs to it. May be because of this I got body fat. Now I will avoid cooking the rice this way although its very tasty. Again Thank a lot for your advice.

Excuse me, rice does not contain fat, who ever taught your instructor that is spreading false information, rice is carbohydrates, if you do not burn it, it will turn to fat, but since you are already on training then you will use it up as energy, good luck and hope I corrected that false notion on our staple food

Don't too much oil. If you have to, I think 2 spons are enough.
