Feeling sad/depressed

I really feel sad and overwhelmed today. I used to suffer from major depression but have been feeling better for several years now. I don't want to feel this way again. How do you pick yourself up and keep going when you are feeling blue? Do you ever feel depressed too? I feel really stressed out, and like I have too much on my plate and no one to help me. (Don't worry I am sure I will feel better again). But this discussion is for people who have felt like this too, or have an opinion on the matter. Do you have any helpful advice?

When some one is thinking that Iam depress, he should think who am I and what am I doing in this world. Not to think what will be there after this. Depression press human beings to think about themselves and create panic in the mind of the individual. Depression is like a hanging of the our computer when lots of command we gave and computer starts behaving like insane person.

Depress - Don't feel depress...
You must focus on thoughts that are positive. It is a amazing idea to convince you that for every negative situation, there is a positive somewhere. By doing this, you are learning to recognize the “positives” in life more than the “negatives”. This can be highly helpful.

hi, serenity 81.. u have been depressed too, though i did not suffer from major depression.. that is a difficult thing to deal, yet, if you really want to be healed, you can.. it is not impossible.. for you not to feel blue, indulge yourself on the things that makes you happy.. have an active lifestyle such that you exercise.. i think, refrain from listening to sad music or anything that reminds you of why you become depressed.. always have someone to talk to. and maybe, if it is too sad to bear, try seeing a psychiatrist.. he/she will give you a medicine that could help increase your serotonin.. a healthy lifestyle would help you a lot.. internalized and have fun..

when i am feeling stressed or depressed, i usually try to cheer myself up by doing the stuffs that i love... or i go out to take a stroll for fresh air and do some window shopping... and after that, i really feel much better and can carry on with my life again... also, i usually take time to quiet down and spend time to pray to God when i am feeling like this... He is a great Comforter and He will comfort me and give me the strength to move on with my life... take care and have a nice day...

Yes, we all go through ups and downs in the course of our life time. I get stressed and depressed once in a while too when things don't don't turn up despite all the efforts. One very helpful way I have found to get rid of the stresses of the day is meditation. Meditation certainly relaxes the mind, and is very good for mental as well as physical health. I would suggest you try it. You can start with just a few minutes a day, and as you get more experienced, you can practise it for longer periods. Best wishes to you !

Focus on things that make you happier, that make you feel better. When you're down, remember a moment in your life where you were strong and confident. If you have experienced this at least once, you can experience this again. It's a state. You control it, not others.

I am sorry to hear that you are feeling so depressed. I, too, sometimes feel depressed because of somethings that are going on in my life, that I don't feel that I can share with anyone, not even mylot friends. When I am depressed I look for strength in pray and scriptures. I know that everyone here are not believers and don't read scriptures, but I find them comforting and they renew my strength and my hope. On the lighter side of things, I put on music (nothing sad) and dance around the house, this is said to increase a person's happy hormone(endorphins). My problems are still there, of course, but I can think clear about how to start taking little steps to take care of problems.

I used to be depressed and irritable all the time until I came across the book titled "As the Mind Thinketh" by James Allen. This book, which can be read on line and downloaded for free, revolutionized the way I see things in life and it ultimately salvaged me out of depression. Your problem is not a hopeless case. The opportunity to rise-up from depression is there for the picking. You can have a joyful life if only you will work hard to achieve this end. You just have to change the way you think. Your condition is the result of the negative thoughts you have been thinking for a long time. Negative thought is the cause and depression is the effect. What you think about is what will surely manifest in your life. So if you think about negative thoughts you will surely get sad, lonely, alienated and depressed. If you think about thoughts that are lovely, pure and uplifting you will surely have a happy and joyful life. The key is MIND CONTROL. Do not allow negative thoughts to enter your mind!

There are lots of times that i tend to feel really sad and low, the way i try to deal with it is think of all the people out there are worse off than you are as well as try to keep yourself busy, rather than sitting doing nothing, this way it keeps your mind off all of your problems

All you have to do is pick yourself up. You're supposed to feel lazy at first but when you're already up the feeling will be gone along with the whole depression thing. You don't need to wait for some supernatural sign or something. Just get up and feel better now.

I know in most of the country it is cold outside but it would be good to just go outside and take a deep breath of cold, fresh air. Feel the air coming in through your nose slowly and rolling around in your lungs. Take about 10 slow full breaths - in and out, think of nothing - just count the seconds as your breath in and then out. Sometimes when we feel overwhelmed a moment of nothing can really help. Pick some good music that is soft but not sad, put on the music and start a simple task like the dishes. Accomplishing something, even something simple can help. The benefits of music have been proved time and again.
