I prefer a cellphone over a landline. I actually disconnected my landline approximately 2 years ago. I saw no point in having and paying for a landline if the only calls I was receiving were telemarking calls and everyone else contacted me on my cellphone. The only thing that delayed me from disconnecting sooner was my DSL and then I found out that AT&T offers DSL without a household having a landline and the only charge $25 a month. I would never re-connect my landline as long as cellphones are around.

Most landline owner and user are deciding to disconnect because of same reason the cost without any more useful. But other family has still keeping landline for its own use and purpose. see you around

Actually not really I don't conduct to much work activity with my cellphone, it mostly utilized for family and friends, but my family never called me at home, they would always call me on my cell. So that is why I decided to keep it instead. Your mom should consider disconnecting it, if she really doesn't utilize it. To me personally it was a waste of money having both.

I prefer using cellphone because I am always traveling. Having a portable communication device is a must for me. By using cellphone, I can just send people messages without a voice call. That is the advantage of a cellphone for me. I could also listen in some music during a long road trip with my friends.

Of course, cellphone is the best. You can't bring landline to other places. Cellphone is very useful means of communication. Like what you said, in case of emergency, it is a great help. You can call anytime, anywhere you want. Unlike telephone, you're just using it at home and cannot be brought outside (except those wireless landline). But, cellphones are much useful than landline.

Well, I guess the cellphone has many advantages as compared to a landline phone. Portability is indeed one great factor when you are using the cellphone as compared to a land line. The only hindrance perhaps to cellphone are the call charges. But if you are using it wisely, then I do not see any problem with such.

I've been using a cell phone for little over 20 years & I haven't used landline for about 15 of it. I found that it's cheaper to keep cell phone for everything it does.

I prefer to have mobile phone as well, I just feel more comfortable knowing I can call someone whenever and whereever I am! I have a friend that refuse to have a mobile phone, but if we want to call or talk to her through phone she had a landline. Her reason of not having mobile phone, is to have a break or privacy and, part of me can understand her, because there are times that I am in the middle of the conversation with other people then my phone will ring or sometimes I am in restaurant and my phone will start to ring! I know I can excuse myself for a while, but sometimes I feel like I'm being rude!

Cellphones of course. As you've said it is more convenient to have cellphones since it is portable and we can contact the person wherever he is. Having a landline would just be another unnecessary cost for my family.

Yes you are right Tina, while out from home it is only cell phone, using which we can communicate, in my home each member has his/her cell phone, we have a land line phone too, this we use for accessing internet.. thanks for this discussion. Happy posting, cheers. Kalyani

I would choose a cellphone for a number of reasons. My cellphone is portable, has lower call rates than my landline, has an alarm clock and calender that I desperately need all the time. So, my cellphone beats the crap out of my landline anyday. Why would anyone choose the landline over the cellphone except and unless the landline is completely free to that person!

I would choose the mobile phone, landline,I do not for a few years ago with friends, because it is not easy to carry, the costs are high, the function is not too much.Plane, and now I just use the Internet use,we alse used this ADSL Internet access, you need to use a landline to connect, speed is very slow, the costs are high.Mobile phones are now many functions, there are alarm clock, you can send text messages, but also access to the Internet(I like to use the phone MyLot,for stock, wonderful foreign exchange),you con also play games, check the map, listening to music, watch wideos, listen to the radio, photography, store date. These functions are plane can not be compared.

Since I no longer have a landline, I choose a cell phone, as it is much more convenient to use and I can take it with me wherever I go, and I can't do that with a landline. I disconnected my landline in December of 2008, because I didn't want to pay for a cell phone and landline, and besides, I was getting nothing but telemarketing calls on it, and I just decided that I wasn't going to give them another chance to harass me. It is like the others have said, is that a cell phone can be used in case of an emergency and it is much more convenient, especially when I am away from home. I will never have a landline again, that is for sure. Take care, and have a very good day.

I prefer cellphone. It is just quicker to use, for it has the phone book. Two touches are enough to dial a number. On land-line, pressing a few more buttons makes it happen and that is a hassle. It is like in most cases we have to remember the numbers. Otherwise, the line is of no use. Another thing is that the land line is usually not clean. Dust falls all over it and we clean it only once in a while. Cellphones are always going to cleansing process. So it is dust free. Another important thing is that we can use cell phones when they are having battery charging. Same is not possible with landlines. Once the hand set is out of battery it needs to be placed on its pad for it to fully get charged before we can talk again.
