hi friends. the world cup squad was announced shortly and it is as follows: dhoni sachin sehwag gambhir kohli yuvraj raina yusuf harbhajan zaheer ashwin chawla munaf nehra praveen so 8 specialist batsmen and 7 specialist bowlers. out of which 3 batsmen and 1 bowler is currenly injured. incase you dont know it is sachin, sehwag, gambhir and praveen. no reserve wicket keeper. we have pretty much 8 players who can bowl slow. it looks good on paper but i can't but feel that something is very very wrong with this squad. but if srikanth is sure about it,who am i?

ya its a big thing everyone is looking for. i think 3 spinners in a squad were we are already having 4 part time spinners, its not good. and in place of that 1 sextra spinner we could have added on reserve wicket keeper. but whatever it is, now lets wish the best for this squad to win this world cup. Cheers INDIA WIN THE WORLD CUP

Having good spinners in a side is good in one day games. It takes the pace off the ball making the batsmen to hit the ball rather then use the pacemans pace. Sometimes they open the bowling with a spinner.

Its a good squad , best possible , however the selection of Piyush Chawla can be debatable .Talking about injuries i dont think selectors will take a chance to play injured players in such an important tournament.Sachin , Sehwag and Gambhir must be having some minor injuries and their not playing in SA is just as a precautionary measure.Sachin has pulled some muscle , but its not so serious like a hamstring injury or something like that, Gambhir got hit on arm but its not broken same is the case with Praveen Kumar , Sehwag has shoulder problem since long time and he takes rest quite regularly ,so its not surprising that he asked for some rest this time. There is more than a month's time for world cup to start and Sehwag Gambhir will get a rest of almost one a half months , while Sachin will get a rest for a month so i think they will get fit and fresh by then. However i am just speculating all this on the basis of reports in media and statements by Dhoni, we dont know the real state of injuries.Too much experimentation was going on before world cup by Dhoni , Kirsten and selectors , i dearly hope all those efforts don't go in vain and Indian team gets the right team combination for world cup.

i believe the reason why i dont think this squad is perfect because for the past 12 months, the indians shuffled the batsmen, included new players, won a few, lost a few and i dont remember the last time india played with full strength. by that i mean sehwah, sachin, gambhir, raina, yuvi, dhoni, yusuf, bhajji, praveen, ashish and zaheer. this playing XI is seen so rarely that i am not sure about this squad. on fitness issue.there is only one guy who is damn too fit for his age is dravid and he is not in the squad. that guy is fitter than the entire ODI squad combined.

I believe that gambhir can wicket keep also. I think you have nothing to worry about India will win the world cup. England will be runners up. Sachin get a ton in the final then he'll retire. Well that will be a great way for such a great player to hang his bat up.

The team which the captain will put in all the matches will be are Sachin, Sehwag, Gambhir,Virat Kohli or Raina, Yuvaraj, Dhoni, Yusuf Pathan,Harbhajan,Zaheer Khan and Praveen Kumar or Nehra or Munaf. Chawla and Ashwin will not get chance and they might play only if anyone gets injured. There is no need for reserve keeper because our M S Dhoni does take good care of his fitness very well. So, extra reserve keeper is waste. I feel selectors did not want to risk players like Sachin, Gambhir and Sehwag before the World Cup. Gambhir hurt his elbow in the test match where Morne Morkel ball came and struck. It is no point in asking Gambhir play because if he gets another blow from another SA bowler, he might miss the World Cup. Which will be loss, Sehwag is not having any injury and Sehwag in the past injured himself before important tournaments like ICC T20 World, etc last time. So, this time I guess team management did not want to risk him again in SA. Praveen Kumar fitness is question mark for me and he is having habit of injuring himself with some injury. Even Nehra too is always having problem with Fitness and I don't think he can do any wonders in bowling department in India. Nehra is good swing bowler in foreign soils like England, Australia and South Africa. Finally, Dhoni has no choice but use the resources what he has. In this World Cup Yuvaraj Singh role is very important in the middle order and players like Virat, Raina, Yusuf must either give support and if hitting is required then they have to do that as well. Which they are good at. I feel this time Sachin has to come down and leave the opening to Sehwag and Gambhir. Coming at one down is not a bad idea but I doubt team management will do this change. Sachin and Sehwag will be opening the innings and it is very important that after them who ever comes must play either hitting role or anchoring role. This time I am eager to see how Indian team fair. Last time in the World Cup they were pathetic that time too Zaheer, Sehwag, Sachin, Dhoni, Yuvaraj, Harbhajan were there. Finally I am sorry for Rohit Sharma who himself has to blame because he did not play any exceptional innings recently compared to Virat Kohli or Raina. I feel Raina was fortunate to be selected because he is better fielder than Rohit Sharma.

yes, absolutly you are right. Me too not much satisfied with the team. something is wrong in the team. There was no need of 3 spinners, and a keeper was needed . abd we cant drop the injured players, they have been giving rest to recover from the injury. hope they will be fit soon.

Even piyush got selected this time...leaving out ojha and tthis makes me see the entire context in the different way i.e, the approach of krishnama chary sreekanth in selecting this card...they wannted a bowler who can bat a bit and bowl spin

The entire squad with exception of 2-3 players are on expected lines. The debate could have been Rohit Sharma and Yusuf Pathan and Parthiv Patel as reserve wicket keeper, between Sri santh and Nehra and selection of Piyush Chawla. I think selection committee has done a good job by preferring Yusuf Pathan over other two considering the world cup is played in India. Yusuf could be devastating on his day and win the match single handedly. About selection of Nehra over Sri Santh I think it is justified. In Indian condition Nehra is better baller than Sri. Selection of Piyush was warranted because one leg spinner was needed in the side. Some teams are vulnerable against leg spin and a bit of variation in balling attack. All in all I think selectors have done a good job.
