Or also more popularly known as
MABUHAY Satellite...
This is one satellite that was launched around way back 1997 to further support sending signals from one country to the other. which also helped determine our weather for the day to day basis. most specifically our national security concern within the islands.
.
I felt sad when i have read the news paper that this satellite, probably the only satellite our country has, is about to fall out of orbit next year 2012!
What would happen? we would have problems in some business sectors like Business Processing Outsourcing for one and some Local Telecommunication companies like Globe and Smart. connection can be slowed or cable channels can be limited.
I hope some companies out there would show mercy and plans to deploy another satellite for the country
couldn't imagine what would happen if we depend on another country in terms of the use of these satellite for information and security.

Maybe it time for Agila to be replaced. I believe this one is owned by the ABS CBN and the Lopez Group am I right knight?
When Agila goes off its orbit, maybe the Philippines or the some other Filipino Corporation would send one out again. This could be a blessing in disguise as we could actually update our satellite, or open up the market to foreign players and bring down communication costs in the process.
Just a though tho.

Hello Shattered
,
It does need to be replaced. I mean? they launched it back in 1997, that's when i started seeing their sarimanok commercial for new channels and programs. I think this was owned by ABS but am not sure if they Lopezes did owned it. we should have had sent another satellite back in 2005, unfortunately we got big problems and it was not prioritized. according to the newspaper other countries replaced old satellites five years ahead. i feel it would too late if we send another and i know it cost millions...of dollars.

No, it won't because it would affect a lot of companies like the BPO and other information source drive. would have wondered why our internet is so fast, because of that satellite too. with it gone, satellite dish would be a bit useless.

Don't let it get you down too much, maybe Manny Villar and Manny Pangilinan have something in their pockets to boost tv5 and probably take over the top spot over ABS CBN
Well, I do believe that it would have a good effect on the network wars and would definitely diminish ABS CBS strangle hold on the top spot of the network rankings. It makes for a much better "showbiz" in the PH.

don't be too sad. i am sure that our economy is getting better. i see there is more foreign investment coming or pouring into our country. the satellite may be not the priority as of now but i am sure they will be able to replace that dying satellite. i am seeing better things economically, politcally in our country. so i am more focused in my personal life. cause i know our country is on the right track. but my personal life i need to put in the right track.

i am sure in a few years time we can make more than one satellite than lone dying satellite we have now. but for now we just need not to focus on them. on what we are seeing in our country. i am sure things are getting for the better now. and how are you today . hope you are doing much better now in your life too. hope to chat with you again soon.

Hello HOTsummer
,
I am hopefull a bit even though it's been almost two decades since our freedom from dictatorship. well, they should make it a priority someday or it will be bad for business. msot specially if we depend on some one elses satellite. that's why our networks have branches through out the globe. if they are gone there won't be subscription to the networks accross abroad.

Hi Letran,
I am not sure of this (about what I write here) but - I believe that only a few countries have satellites up there in space. And we all share some data from those who are our allies. If it is true then definitely some countries would be willing to help out in such situations. Not sure if they would do this for free or what the charges would be to the exchequer but there would be some way to sort out the issue as I think it is just some time before you people would come up again and launch one of your own.
Almost all countries in today's economy are suffering due to something or the other and it is a joint effort that should see us through.
Regards,
theSids.

Despite of the slums you have as well, i couldn't helped but ENVY you're Country (seriously). You should know that you have yourselves a nice military, an airforce with updated fighter jets, a nuclear facility, a SPACE CENTER that helped you launched a probe to the MOON
. of course, satellites, i guess if there's no replacement for agila II INdia would remain dominant as Asia's top business outsourcing place. we suffer the most since we don't have the technology. thanks for sharing.

That is so sad to hear. Maybe, the government or whatever agency is responsible of keeping this satellite running, would do something about it. And if it would seem there's no solution, who knows, we might have a new satellite up and running by the time Agila is gone. I don't think this is going to happen because business is important to the business sector of our country and I think that they will do everything in their power to keep their businesses up and running 24/7. And if the loss of Agila will affect their enterprises, they would surely make a way to resolve this issue.

Hello Penro
,
Unfortunately, it was formulated by another company and it's private. definitely there isn't any thing that can keep the funding of that satellite if it was government were running it.
. sometimes, i wonder, if the newspaper didn't showed this, will the people ever know about this happen?it would affect a lot for sure.

Dear LetranKnight25,
It's a good thing then that some people in the media business are updated and concerned about such issues. With the news out, maybe someone or an organization will do something about it. Let's hope for the best.

This is the results of too much politics in our country. Since power grabbing ruin our system of government, they tuned all of the resources on how they can protect and secure their power. Many things have been neglected. Now another reason to be in the mercy of another country leading to abuses in our rights and resources.

Hello EdnaReyes
,
Yeah, anything that to remain in the office and that means scourging our resources most specially the tax payers money.
the resources were wasted into corruption, i know it's gonna take us decades again but i hope we do the right thing this time.

Reading your post given me a shock because i never heard or read about this news. And come to think of it, it made me sad and realize that we are still inferior to other countries because somehow we still depend on them especially when we talk about technology. And thinking about what will our country lose, it is such depressing.

Hello Louie,
Because we screwed things up that's why! i mean, we had economic power before why can't we have one now? it's because we are fiercely divided into many things.we gossip a lot and criticize and complain instead looking into ourselves and thinking the right thing to do. we are indefinitely loosing a lot since the corruption had been eating this country alive.

hi Knight, sorry but this again comes to show the sorry state of our nation, it also shows how poor we are in planning ahead of time and setting our priorities on what it is that we really need. For the past decades we had seen nothing more but pockets of corrupt politicians being prioritized
. Come to think of it, if you bought a brand new car in 1997 then you must have already saved to buy another one after 15 years haha, nada! Let's just all wait on what the impact would be on our communication, business and more importantly on our security, hope it falls on the mansion of who ever is responsible for our sorry state , or falls where I can at least get parts to sell as scrap so I can at least get part of what I pay in taxes, haha(just kidding), hope it's not radio active.

Hello Louie,
Back then i thought it was beginning of a new age and even thought of us going into space. but now it seems we are going back wards.
I've noticed them getting richer all the time while we see a lot of poor people around us.I feel it's going to be not only bad but it can give us a lot of trouble. i can imagine people complaining about their internet connections
