How to deal with drugs?

I am chatting with my friend right now who's son is addicted to drugs. His son has been using these drugs for years now and he's into gambling too. He stole his girlfriend's credit card and christmas' presents last December and sold it so he could buy more drugs and gamble some more. I really don't know what advice to give him whenever he tells me about his son's problem. He's much older than me and maybe he just needs me to listen to that problem. HOwever, I think i wanted to tell him something to help him out. How will you deal with a drug addict son?
