In 2009, 24 year old Kelly Shay lost her job & was on the streets in Mississippi. Today Kelly Shay is crossing the country in her pick up truck with her husband & her Border Collie ZuZu. Every week Kelly fills her truck with donated clothes, socks, blankets, soap, propane heaters, etc & she drives to a new town & state to give out clothes to the homeless. She also donates her time to soup kitchens in the various cities she visits. She started doing this in January 2010 & last year she covered 50 states in 50 weeks. Kelly says being homeless & helping the homeless has given her a new appreciation for life. She now says "Success does not always mean having wealth, or even personal achievement. It means to try, even when it seems impossible." She says she no longer holds onto her wealth as her own personal worth. Helping those who have lost the ability to help themselves is what gives her worth!!! I took in 2 homeless people last year, but I don't know that I would be as willing if I had to give up my comforts of home!! How do you think you would handle yourself if you were in the same situation???

Kelly Shay is certainly one amazing lady. What she's doing is really great. This is the first that I've heard of her, and I'm certainly impressed. it's really nice of her to do this work. It's difficult for me to say how I would react and do in this situation. I would like to think that I might do something like this, but it's difficult to say what I might do, in any situation.

I am impressed with her too!!! I like to think I could be as giving as she is; but I do like my comforts!!! She came through the area I live in, but it wasn't announced until she was gone. I would have loved to have gone & shook her hand & volunteered some time to her work here!!!!

I think what she's doing is great! I do what I can to help people with monetary donations. Modest as they are, if everyone would contribute even $1 a week to charity we could quickly solve a LOT of problems.
However, what is she going to do when she's old? Social Security will be broke when she retires and she's not holding onto any of her wealth which, I assume, means she's not saving anything.
How was your experience in taking in homeless people? Are they still with you?

lately I actually think being homeless is not that bad
as long as I have my books to read and basic needs I will be fine
but I have no kids and the house and car are not mine
so never having much, makes it easy to detach from material
I think she gives a good example of giving even when she lack
not sure if I can ever go that far but right now with mounting debts
I will have to figure out a lot of things before I can do what she does

Kelly Shay is one heck of woman to do all this for others.
I can't see me doing this except for maybe working the kitchens and helping the homeless in my own world.
I know the other day, my husband and I went to the VA and there a man under a bridge who was ragged and some one had thrown out a sack of food and he was picking it up and eating it.
There are shelters all over this state and this man was only about two blocks for a soup kitchen and shelter.
I suppose I am selfish but I don't want to have a homeless person in my home. I am quite sure the feeling deep down is a good one but all the same there are too many murders, etc, that happen when someone is just being a good person.
I think this lady is going above and beyond and it does my heart good to know people do do this sort of thing.
