My daughter has to create a mailbox for her valentines from her classmates for valentines day. The ideas they sent home were like a cat one made out of an oatmeal container or an alien or a monkey made out of a cereal container. I'm looking for more ideas but not having much luck. Does anyone have any good ideas on other animals to make from simple stuff? Or websites that have a bunch of different ideas?

That is a cute idea too. I'm going to collect all the ideas I can and then let her choose one. My money is on the cat one so far because she loves kittens. I'm worried though that the whole class will make those examples and have similar projects. It's not graded, just for fun for Valentines Day.

I would draw them on a doubled peice of colored construction paper and the cut them out where they will open like a card. She could write something on the inside if she liked. You could even glue cotton on the front for fur.

My trouble would be that I'm imaginative enough to think of something cool, but not artistic enough to pull it off. I would choose something based on the child's interests.. like what her favorite animal is.. or it doesn't even have to be an animal. My daughter is in dance, so I could imagine a mailbox that looks like a dance shoe.. but I'd never be able to pull that off! Thankfully my husband is a bit artistic, just not imaginative, so I give him the idea and he puts it together. Thankfully my kids make their valentine's stuff in school. My preschooler's class is doing theirs out of milk jugs.
