Yep, hundreds of thousands in tuition costs & they just taught her how to use the fryer. She's working in the school commons to make extra money so if her career choice doesn't pan out at least she's got something to fall back on. She'll be well trained at burger flipping already.

LOL This seems to be what life is like as a college kid. Or even a kid straight out of high school .Heck, even an adult really. Our dreams are so far from reality. I'm working at a dry cleaners but after I graduate from a 4 year uni I want to go to law school. Yet, my immediate reality is... dry cleaning, pretty much cashiering. What can ya do?

There have been many working students who tend to do better. It build character, dealing with people, time management, and various skills. This is a good step for youre daughter. although it may be stressful for her later on. But finishing the college is a priority because it will help her be accepted for job applications. She needs to have defined and goals and priorities so that later on, she might have the confidence to apply for a better job.

I'd have to agree. I doubt the ones who don't work their way through college are really prepared for the work force when they finally do get out.

That's where she'll be working if the economy doesn't recover. There are thousands of college grads out there that can't find jobs in their field. But good for her! There are a lot of kids that think that kind of work is beneath them. As long as the job is honest, there is no shame in doing it. She'll learn a lot there, believe it or not, and it will help prepare her for a job in her chosen profession.

Actually I'm a college grad who can't find work in my field. The market got flooded with students & there weren't enough jobs in it. Now years later my training is outdated so I'd have to go BACK to school again to even compete. The whole college will get you ahead thing is often a myth. Most of my class aren't working in the field either.

Kudos to your daughter! Some of the young people now refuse to take the available jobs like McDonald's and insist on trying to get into the IT and higher paying fields. I think she will find that this type of work will prepare her for dealing with different kinds of people and situations. She made a wise decision.
