Do you think paying in all change is weird?

What are your views if you see someone go in the store or wherever and pull out only coins to pay? I was at Albertsons and a homeless man, he paid $5 worth in pennies, I mean it's money.. he didn't want to use the machine because they eat your money so what do you think? I've seen kids pay in quarters or even adults.. I think it's okay because coins ARE money, worth something and usually a hassle and people want to get rid of it. Have you ever paid in coins, do you find it weird? embarrassing?

Yeah, that was exactly a problem I have met. I think paying by coins is ok, but when you buy something worth dollars, and you pay all the money by coins, that will be a very embarrassed time. I once paid a sandwich all by pennies and dimes, it was a very hard experience...all the others looked at me in a strange way and I could not control myself to flushing! However, how to spend penny is a problem. we always get penny when we by stuff, but there are less way we could spend them! Now I have more than 100 pennies but I don't know how could I spend them, maybe I should go to the bank and exchange them, but I think it will become a hard time too...

marmot I have often saved pennies and you can get rolls for pennies from your bank. you have them in dollar increments and deposit them in your checking or savings account and your balance goes up. good way to u se all those pennies. they count like any other change. just roll them up and deposit them.

I've paid for things in coins alot simply to get rid of them and saving me going to a bank or whatever to get them changed into notes. Some stores are generally happy to receive the change as alot of people think the opposite that they HAVE to carry notes with them all the time, not change. I actually did it just today (im in the uk) I walked into a store and paid 13 pounds in mixed change, we'll say 13 dollars since you're american. I thought she was going to kiss me because she had little change left. So im all for it, i've worked in a few stores and i've had people try to buy something at 20(gbp again we'll say dollars) whenever the item they were buying was you're equivalent of a few cents. It's stupid how some people spend money at times. Nothing wrong with using change instead of notes. Not like a store will refuse you

not weird and not embarrassing if thats all you have and you want the product or are paying a bill. not ever one is rich and that might be all the money they have. if anyone is embarrassed I feel damned sorry for them for being so thin skinned.,Of course coins are money and if thats all I have and I have to have this item I will damned well pay with all I have If someone does not like it well tough nougies.

I don't think it is weird or embarrassing at all. Some people have no choice, and money is money. The only one who might have a right to be a bit annoyed is the cashier, it does mean more work for them, after all... I personally save my change, but I take it to the bank when it adds up. But if I had to buy something with it, I would consider paying in change if I had to!

I don't find it weird and try not to be embarrass but people always stare. Money is money , whether it is paper or coin. Some people are snubs. I'm sure sometime in their life they pay with coins too. People should just mine their own business, they might even end up in that position in the future.

When I worked at a gas station, we had people come in and pay with all change all the time. There was so many times that people would come in and pay for $20-$30 in gas in change. Money is money. I have done it a number of times. Nothing quite that much, but I HAVE done it, up to $10.

We have to pay with the money we have. If all change is everything we have, we should have no shame in giving it. Others should not take offense in accepting our change. At least we are paying and not trying to cheat you instead.

My wife worked as a cashier before and according to her, cashiers would actually appreciate those who pay in pennies since this will give them enough loose change. At the end of the day, any payments in excess or short will be questioned and some requires explanation and this can be avoided if only all customers pay the exact amount or with a couple of pennies at hand. I find it weird to pay in pennies and I hate carrying pennies in my pocket due to it weight that's why I gave it all to her for disposal.

Well I think that paying in change is good, but what I hate is that some people waiting behind do get irritated by this and they should not because it's money and they should wait their turn or go to another line so yeah I like to get rid of coins and that's why I use them.

As many here have already expressed, it really is not weird to pay in change. As a business owner I would rather see the customer pay in change than steal the merchandise. Many times retail stores have shortage of change and i know some banks even have s small charge for rolls of coins. I guess that is one solution to that. keeping the money in circulation benefits the economy and yes, I have paid in coins many times during my life. I remember once when the subway fare was .50 cents here in nyc. I payed my fare with a role of pennies. The clerk felt the need to open the role and count each individual penny. There was line at the token booth and those people on the line voiced their displeasure. The hostilities were towards the token booth clerk that stopped to flow of the line. Who can figure. No, i am not embarrassed paying in coins.

Well, I do not think that it is weird to pay at a store in coins. It is still has value and its not worth just to throw it. As a matter of fact, I keep those pennies or cents that i have when i get a change for buying in the stores and sooner or later il get to use them.

I don't find it weird or embarassing at all. Sometimes cashiers prefer either an exact amount or loose change because they may not have enough coins to give their customers a change or they have to request it from their managers to give them change which can take a while and pile up the queue. I do that at times and my fiance too prefer to pay in coins or loose change.

Yeah, coins are money, but sure it feels somewhat embarrassing to pay huge amount in coins! Usually i get to face such a situation when me and my friend totally run out of cash while we are out! Its quite embarrassing though, but i think its fine, you give as a coin or a note, it all makes up for the same value. You don't pay an extra penny if you are giving it as a note and you even take a penny less if it is paid in coins. The value remains the same for everything! Cheers!

Well dear friend I really don't see any thing weird about paying change to pay one's bill. The change is also a currency created by the government to make the transactions easier for us. The change plays a major role at the end of the day in businessman's World. On the contrary I feel it is a thing to be appreciated as the change which other wise would lie down in some piggy bank like that without being functioned for which it was created has been brought in to circulation. The money of a nation is the National property. If every one thinks that change is not be spend and every one start neglecting the left over Change and just make it lie in a piggy bank then just imagine how much money is being put out of circulation and I am sure this can make a difference in the Nation's economy. if not in a big way but definitely in some minor way.So in my opinion one should spend the leftover change to pay big bills if felt that the left over change has go accumulated as a considerably big amount. Another point is by giving change at stores we are helping the storekeepers to have sufficient change with them which most of the times we witness at the counters of such stores. Thus I feel it is a good cause done by one by tendering the change to pay one's bills. I have got the habit of collecting coins in a vessel.Every time I come from market I just toss my change in that vessel and after some time I realise that I have got enough of change which can be utilised to make some good money either I give it to a shopkeeper in exchange of big currency notes or I simply pay the bill with this money after discussing with the shop keeper if he doesn't have any problem with this change! So far I never met any shop keeper who objected for this idea of mine, on the contrary they have readily welcomed my idea! So in conclusion, instead of feeling weird about spending the change, I think it is our responsibility as the sincere Citizens to keep the change in circulation instead of hoarding it in piggy banks to keep the Nation's economy healthy! Thanks !

I don't see anything weird either but my friends think I am cheap when I am using coins but that is just because I don't want to fed my coins to the machine & the machine gets profit. That is a good idea, I never thought of it like that. Thanks for sharing :))

Hi infatuatedbby, No, not embarrassing in anyway. I have a lot coins and i just wanted to get rid of it, so what ? Let others think what they want to, i don't care. Paying money in coins doesn't imply anything. The store owners are actually happy to receive such change sometimes. If somebody would give me that look when i am paying with coins i would look into their eyes - "Say what?!"

It is weird but try to understand the predicament of the poor person.I have paid in coins but not 1 penny denomination. Here there are coins for 1rs,5rs and 10 rs(rs=rupees). To pay low denomination in higher amount is weird but when higher denomination coins are being freely circulated no point in finding it embarrassing.

Paying in all change isn't weird. It is annoying sometimes, when you're in a hurry and the person in front of you will pay a large amount in change. They'll take a long time counting it! Also, people, cashiers particularly are a bit of gossipers and they'll definitely gossip about you while rolling their eyes. I know it's mean, but that's the culture here. It's like paying in coins make you really really really poor! Haha! But I do pay in coins, when I haven't got enough money. It's fine by me.

Yes, I pay with coins for my purchases and find nothing wrong with it. I think the cashier doesn't have a right to be annoyed or find it as a hassle because I'm paying them money. It's my right to use it for paying. I don't find it embarrassing, too!
