I have a really bad cold at the moment, and I have tried basically everything I could think of. Lemon and other types of Vitamin C, tons of garlic, and so on. So tell me: What cold remedies do you know of? What cold remedies are typical for your country? Maybe one of them could help me out...

I know that in my house we use alot of onions to help ease colds. Sometimes we will soak them in hot water and put in a bit of brown sugar then sip at it. My husband likes to eat onion sandwiches when he is sick and it helps as well. Other than that we use some cough medicines. Good luck getting rid of it.

What really always worked for me in the past is drinking many cups of hot herbal tea with freshly squeezed lemon juice (which contains lot of Vitamin C). And you should give it a day or two to work its miracle. Maybe your treatment is already giving some results and tomorrow you'll be as good as new.

Hmm.. if those tons of vitamin cs dont work, could it be that your body succumbs to colds and flu because you have been stressed? How is your sleeping patterns? Could it be that you are working too hard?

Here is something really simple that you could do. Put on a whole bunch of blankets and heavy clothes. Sit on the bed and sweat the cold out. Also be sure to drink plenty of hot fluids as they help cleanse the secrets. I have not taken any medication for illness in years and years and I seem to be be a lot healthier for it. However, when I do, this seems to work well for me for getting better sooner.

i think to drink lots of liquids is the best way to get rid of flu faster, it's not that it's going to cure in one day but if you just lay down all day resting, really, sleeping a lot and drinking your favorite teas and juices you'll feel great at night, that always helped me i think flu is about resting, more important than eating or taking medicines

My doctor told me to boil some water pour it in a bowl, get a cardboard, roll the cardboard into a tube then put your nose and mouth on the opening of the cardboard tube and through it slowly inhale and exhale the smoke from the hot water. Do it twice a day. It will help loosen the excess mucus caused by the cold. Lots of sleep, water intake and increased dose of vitamin C (the generic type works better on me) can definitely help. In my experience, I buy 5 gallons distilled water and placed it beside my bed so I am sure that I drink lots and lots of water, more than I normally do. Having colds is very irritating. I hope you'll get well soon.

I make homemade soup or chili...spices that tend to be hot to the tongue will loosen up any stuffiness you have..and chicken soup is supposed to have some emzines in it that actually fight the cold virus.

Aww, I'm sorry you are not feeling well puccagirl, I also have had a cold for the last three days. What I do is drink a tea made from a tablespoon each of vinegar and honey in a cup of hot water and drink this in the morning and again at night. Of course if it is really bad like mine has been, I do take a dose of niquil and I did this the last couple nights. But I won't tonight because I am feeling so much better..*Note, the vinegar and honey tea can also help prevent or lessen colds before you get them. I was drinking it until a few weeks ago and I stopped and then got this horrible cold..Another benefit is this tea also burns fat..

Hello. Colds are viral.According to my doctor it will go away naturally and there's no prescription that will work on it. However, whenever a family has colds and flu, my mom would often served this recipe. And it never failed her because it gets rid of the colds and flu faster.I am serving this to my own family now. My husband loves it and also my kids. http://notecook.com/soup/chicken-soup-a-bowl-of-relief-for-fever-and-cold/ You can alter the recipe but do not forget to include the two main ingredients especially for colds and flu, lemon grass and ginger. Get better soon.:)

Honey is good. You can mix it with lemon in a glass of water. You can put onions too in a saucer beside your bed at night. You can do some vapor steaming once in a while and this really helps in making your feel better. You need to take vitamin see and have a good rest and drink lots of juices.Well almost everybody catches cold during cold season and we need to take vitamin C for defense.

Elderberry and echinacea extract are great. If you go to the nutrition store FiddleHeads, they sell an organic formula by the company Samuguard. It contains a ratio of elderberry, echinacea, and vitamin C that help build your immune system to recover from the flu or cold symptoms. I use it every time I show symptoms of the flu and within a few days I recover! I definitely recommend trying it!

I have given up trying to remedy my colds and flu. This is because of my asthma which has gotten worse over the last few years. So I just give in, wait for the weather to change and sniff away.

Cold - Affected by cold
Cold is such a symptom, which comes and stay for some time and then slowly disappears. Any medicine we take against cold, may give some relief or relax but not fully get removed. In fact, by affecting cold means the body identifies certain unwanted/unusual things or substances are got into our body and the body itself try to prevent with natural way of removal. The cold affected with water contamination, excessive body work, or whether change, whatever it is, something extra got into our body and it tries to remove through various ways, especially water substance absorbed into our head, which removes. By raising the body temperature and adjusting all, the process continues. Even though it is inconvenience to us, we get disturbed with it. We need certain relief from such problems. However, I think you become alright now and if yet not, try this - take 1-2 pieces of dried ginger (if available) or ginger only, and 15-20 black pepper and crush both of them. Let it boil for sometime and if possible add 2 spoon honey and drink warm. You will get immediate relief. And if you got fever, that also will get reduced and you will get sweat in some time. You can try 2 times a day and you should get better result in some time. This is the only way I do from the childhood, though I am not affected with cold regularly. Thank-s

Well, first thing is you have to boost your immune system in order to fight the colds. Taking vitamin c and eating fruits regularly will be helpful. Taking the herbal remedies is not bad at all. If these therapies wont work, I think you should go to your doctor and seek for medical attention.. Oftentimes, colds and flus are viral attacks but we will never know until we seek medical attention. Maybe its different in your case, it could be bacteria. Well, try to visit your doctor. Godbless!

Water therapy and good sleep is the best remedy for cold and flu. Taking vitamins is also a good additional remedy on this case.
