For 3 days straight my son was running a 102.9 fever. The first day I took him to the doctor and the doctor said it was probably just a virus. On the 4th day he was good his fever was gone and he started eating again. The 5th day which was yesterday the fever came back. It was at 101.0 so and he didnt want to eat so I took him up to the ER. Come to find out he has an ear infection. Its the first one hes ever had. The doctor prescribed him Omnicef. I got the medicine from the pharmacy then took my son home and fed him and gave him his medicine. I put the medicine in the fridge and went to give him his dose after breakfast today and noticed in pretty large letters on the top part of the bottle it says : Do NOT REFRIGERATE Lovely! How did I miss that ugh. Now I hope the medicine isnt ruined because hes been really sick and needs to get better. After seeing that notice on the bottle I took it out of the fridge and its sitting on top of my microwave.

It's better to be safe than sorry so I suggest asking the right person about it first, like a doctor or a pharmacist. You could probably do more harm than good if the medicine turned out unusable anymore after letting your son have some dosage. I do pray this wouldn't be the case for his sake and yours too. You could have overlooked it due to the many things you are working on plus the additional care and attention you had o give to your sick son, you are not to be blame here. It's just one of those honest mistakes that occur to anyone at times. I do hope that everything will be okay.

Yes your right. If I give him a medicine that isnt going to help him then he isnt going to get better. I called the pharmacy and they said they would mix me up another batch. I guess even with it being in the fridge only over night it will make it ineffective or they would have told me to just go ahead and give it to him. I will be going down to pick up the medicine pretty soon if my van will start with it being so cold out.

I have a recent similar, not-so-similar experience. Just about the same time I wasn't feeling well last week, my son was also feeling the same. So we bought went to the doctor to get checked. I had swollen throat, and he had an ear infection. So we got the same medicine, but I had a higher mg. I got capsules for us both, and I never once considered that my son had never had capsules ever. I should have known that! So, after a few dramatic episodes, on the first few capsules, he finally learned how to. Still, I should have known.

Aww poor kid. I'm glad that he learned how to take the capsule. I remember my sister when she was young trying to take a pill and choking and spitting it and the water all over the floor. I was terrified after that and wouldnt attempt to swallow a pill until I was much older probably high school age literally lol.

I'd say before you give it to him to call the pharmacist and ask them if you can give it to him. Tell them you put it in the frig. They will tell you what to do. Never give your child something when you know you have done some like that until you check with your pharmacist. I hope he gets okay soon.

most of the meds are keep refrigerated and kids love it when its cold. this might happen to mee too. but my wife is the one who reads everything specially when it is something that we need to give our son. so i let her handle that for i dont like to be nagged when i did something wrong. i hope too that it did not ruin the meds, or you can get again a new one. hope your son gets well.

I think this is the first medicine that I have ever seen that it says NOT to refrigerate. Usually it says on them to keep them refrigerated so I didnt pay any notice I just stuck it in the fridge like I always do. I cant blame anyone else lol since I am the one who did it.

I am sorry about your kids, dear. Sometimes we have so much things on our mind that we tend to not be thinking so keen.We tend to forget to be really cautious. That happens to everyone ,I guess. In your situation,my husband would do the same. LOL. Not because he is not observationn but he is used to doing such thing. All food go straight to the fridge after opening. Most food have labels like that, don't they? So, I wouldn't surprise if he will do exactly what you did with the medicine. Matter of fact, he'd put all medicines in the fridge even if I already keep them safe in our medicine cabinets. Maybe, you are just acting like my husband. And it is a good thing , you read the labels. I hope this will serve us all a lesson. Not everything we take in our stomach should be stored in the fridge after opening them. I hope and pray that your son will get better soon....

Ugh! I hate it when I do things like that. Hopefully the medicine is still good. If I were you, I'd call the doctor's office first thing in the morning to be sure. I'm not sure I've ever seen medicine that specifically stated to NOT refrigerate it.

Sometimes I am also like you. I don't read details on the bottle of any medicine which is not actually a good habit. We must really read so that we could be warned of what not to do with it.

Everybody makes mistakes. Hopefully, the effect of the medicine is still there. Just be careful next time. But don't beat yourself with it. Have a great day and hopefully your son will get better very very soon.

I would just call the pharmacy and ask them. Tell them what happened they should know if it will harm it or not then you will not be guessing. They should be more that happy to answer your questions and still might be open tonight.
