More than 10 years ago I decided to visit a chapter of the Crochet Guild of America with my mom thinking that it would be something that my mom could do when she retired in a couple of months. My plan was to go with my mom for a few months so she could make some friends, then stop going myself. Well, I ended up making my own friends in the group and my mom and I started going to more groups to where we were doing something every single weekend! :-) I was working at the time and when the group would plan their quarterly yarn shop 'field trips', I would treat my mom to lunch, snacks and yarn shop purchases. It brought us very close and though we now live in another state and no longer have our friends around us, we are still very close. :-) We still make our own field trips to visit yarn and bead shops and we host our own crafting group and have made many new friends. The group that meets with us has two more mother-daughter sets and I love to hang around with them. It makes me feel wonderful to be with daughters that cherish their mom's as much as I do. :-) :-) Is there anyone else that got close to their mom or mother-in-law with their crafting? :-) :-) I'd love to hear about it! :-) :-)

My mom is gone but she was also a crafter...that is where I got it from. We did both love to crochet and sometimes would get a chance to sit together and crochet! I sure miss her and the times we had together....there were even times when I would get stuck...I'd just call her and she usually could talk me through it!

That is great that you have that with your mom. Mine is somewhat of a reverse to that. I started scrapbooking in 2005 when I moved from Texas to Pennsylvania, new state, new start, new hobby. 4 months later my oldest daughter ended up moving to Virginia, 6 hours away from me. Her first visit up to Pa. I showed her my first scrapbook, and she was hooked. We have since gone to conventions, weekend scrapbook retreats, and had our own crop day at her house several times and at mine. I now have both daughters scrapbooking although we have not had the chance to get together, the three of us, and have a crop day. I'm back in Texas, one in Virginia and on here in same town I live in. But we share our latest layouts by posting pics on facebook. I have just recently started a meetup group here locally, and a yahoogroup also. I have now taken my hobby/obsession to a new level by becoming a consultant! Scrapbooking keeps us close even when we are far away.
