Try a couple table spoons of baking soda and add a little vinegar. It'll work on the cog and remove the smell.

I always use the "foaming snake" products that you can purchase in the grocery or home improvement store. I have tried both Liquid Plumber and Drano brands and both have worked very well for me. Another thing you can do is buy and actual snake (it's a coiled piece of metal that you push down through the drain to actually dislodge whatever is clogging it).

I have no used this but I have been told using alka seltzer on a clog works. Drop two tablets down the drain with a bit of vinegar to unclog the drain. Hope that helps.

I've used Liguid Plumber or similar products. One time I used the crystal kind instead of the liquid of the same or similar brand. I also have heard that a non-toxic boiling water and baking soda works. All of that only works for mild clogs though. Major ones need to be "snaked" out. If that does not work then I am sad to say it is time to call a pro plumber.
