Are small dogs more spoiled than large dogs?

Small, spoiled dog - This is the small dog of a friend of mine. She's so spoiled, she's like a litle tyran!

Hello everybody, I don't have a dog of my own right now but I've noticed that, while they are on a walk, the small dogs seem to be more spoiled than the large dogs. I saw the little ones always bark at the larger ones and they pull their leashes like they were mastering the walk. The large dogs I saw they are more calm and disciplined and they don't do such things. Of course there are exceptions, too. So, what do you think, are the little ones more spoiled?

Hello Octav, It's not necessary dogs' fault. People have the tendency to spoil more smaller dogs, because they look so cute and they can't resist their look. With larger dogs, people are more careful, they don't want them to become spoiled, as it is difficult to control a large dog when he pulls, for example. I think that small dogs' owners find them cute when they bark or when they walk ahead their owners and that's why they don't want to change things.

You'll see that sometimes you can't resist that beggar eyes! But you have to keep an equilibrum between being harsh and spoiling him. Neither of those two options are good for a dog's education. You must teach him to behave well, so you won't have a spoiled dog, but you should do this without being a tyrant.

You know I love large dogs, especially Bernen Shennenhunds. They also look so cute, especially when they are young puppies! Does this mean that I'll have the tendency to spoil him because of his look? They have those eyes that make you melt! Do you know what I mean?

Hello Vidhyaprakash, It's nice to meet you, I didn't know you are both in myLot! Now that you told me you're Darshika's husband, I can recognize your two sons in your avatar. Binne's OK, she's becoming more and more attached to me. She's almost an adult now and it's a pleasure to be around her. I'm impressed that Darshika told you about us.

I haven't taken care of a small dog yet; Maybe some puppies. I currently have one puppy right now. She is very aggressive and will always hug my feet. When i am passing by, without noticing, I will just step on her by accident. Well, i can't kick her away or scold her of course. She is still young to be disciplined I think. But actually, I have a large dog which is I think a spoiled one. I will come out of the gates of our house when we are going somewhere or just opening the door for throwing garbages. He would run out on the streets when his pet door is closed. I am annoyed in him because however I call him, he won't listen. He will just continue running and sniffing around.

Hello Blacksun, The fact that your large dog doesn't come when you call him doesn't mean that he's spoiled. He is only showing his independence. You should probably teach him first that coming when he's called is more interesting that whatever he sniffs around. You should also fulfill his needs of move, by taking him out on a leash for at least 40 minutes a day. This way he will sniff around in the neighborhood under control, without annoying you as you said.

Blacksun, if you want your puppy to behave well as a grown up dog, you must start to teach him how to behave, or else you will end up having a spoiled dog, like the ones I saw on street! How old is she that you think she is too young to be disciplined? Be careful with your large dog, he can be hit by a car if he runs outside the gate! Or maybe somebody can hurt or steal him! Be careful! I think inu1711 gave you a good advice, I'd follow it if I were you.

They are more ferocious and are likely to nip at our heels.I have a preference for larger dogs and i find they are good to smaller children.Any dog can be spoilt by the owner. If we teach well early on its not likely to be spoilt.

I also like larger dogs. I dream to have a Bernen Shenenhund (also called Bernese or Swiss Mountain Dog) They are so beautiful and gentle nature! A friend of mine has one and he's so delicate with the children they have! The little boy is only 5 years old but the dog (his name is Freud) is so good around the child! They are best friends. But why don't everybody teach well early their dogs not to behave bad?

I don't think the size of the dog has anything to do with it, to be honest. The owner is generally the problem when dogs get too spoiled. So don't blame the dogs, blame the owners!

I don't blame anybody, it was just a curiosity I had. So the owners are guilty of the bad behavior of their little dogs? Hmmm, so I could have a bad large dog if I do not train him properly? I dream to have a Bernese sometime, and I wouldn't like him to look spoiled. It would be embarrassing to have a large dog being un-polite. Do you have a large or a small dog?

I do not think that the small dongs are not spoiled than large dogs. It is a fact that little one always barks that the larger ones. I think small dongs are more jolly than the larger dogs. Small dogs are very cute than the large dogs.

So I'm not the only one that noticed that the small dogs are always barking at the large ones? But if a large dog bit a small one that barks at him, he would eat him from a single bite! Why are they so stupid to put themselves in danger? I personally like larger dogs more than smaller ones. Of course, there are a few small dogs that I like to see, but when I see how bad they behave, I remember myself why do I like larger dogs the most.

I think so. We have a shih-tzu (mixed) and he is so spoiled! So hard to train.
