Do You Think Artificial Intelligence is Threat to Humankind? Will Robot Kill Us?

Will Robots Kill All Humans? - What will happen when artificial intelligence become so powerful that it will start killing human by designing such robots?

How will be stop those robots? They will be powerful and unstoppable.

Scientists are concerned and researching the possibilities and solutions to this problem.

Dear myLotters, I hope you all have seen scientific-fiction blockbusters like "I Robot," "The Matrix," "The Terminator," etc., and have enjoyed them. These types of films showed how artificial intelligence can become a threat to humankind. But do you know that now artificial intelligence is turning out to be a real threat to us? Initially it looks great-Robot is washing our clothes, making food for us, washing our cars, and doing a lot more. But what will happen if that Robot turns into a machine that starts killing us autonomously and no one can even stop it? This is what scientists are concerned about today. A real threat to humankind. The fear is reasonable enough and needs our attention. Although, scientists have opinion that this situation will take place after a long time, but there are legitimate concerns that technological progress would make the things happen pretty much the same way and sooner if technology develops at a faster speed. Another problem can rise when criminals will start exploiting artificial intelligence for their own purposes. Situation will be worst if it goes in the hands of terrorists! For the very same reason, experts attended a conference in 2009 hosted by Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI). There the scientist discovered that some robots have already acquired semi-autonomy including the ability to find power sources on their own and to independently choose targets to attack with weapons. Per Professor Vernor Vinge, Department of Mathematics/Computers/AI, San Diego University: A time will come when computer will be "smarter" than humans and at that point in time artificial intelligence will surely lead to some sort of human extinction by transhumanism. Can humanity survive long term in this world with artificial intelligence? It is a question that is still not properly answered. What do you think? What are your opinions? How you see future of humankind? please check for more information: http://www.siliconindia.com/shownews/Is_artificial_intelligence_a_threat_to_humankind-nid-77569.html http://machineslikeus.com/news/artificial-intelligence-threat-humankind

I think robot can threat human beings, but not now. Just like the scientific novels and movies shows, when robots get their own thoughts, intelligence may become a treat to human. Because they have much more physical advantages than human and of course, intelligence advantage. However, it should be hundreds years later if the intelligence can think themselves. And when that time comes, maybe human beings is already much more developed and have solutions to avoid be overwhelmed by robots.

I REITERATE scientists have discovered that some robots have developed some functions where they can independently find power source and can think about an attack. This is the concern of scientists. Although, there is time in their complete evolution as an independent system, but this has already started. You cannot think that we humans are more developed because we have built them, we have started to lag behind them in some aspects and if this will go in the same direction, the time is not very far way when we will completely lag behind.

Yes, I have seen those films and I like them, but I don't think that the threat is imminent. It is true that artificial intelligence is gaining power day by day and that is not very far away that their smartness will surpass human intellect. Sometimes I also think like this that what will happen I machines will overtake us and start disturbing our society. It is like a horrific dream, but it has some base and is possible if technology keeps developing like this. The danger is impending and scientist must do something in order to prevent this to occur. But this is those who are good scientist with good ethics? What will happen if this technology come into existence and in the control of some bad scientists? You are correct that this question is still unanswered, but it needs to be answered very soon for the sake of humankind.

Hello Narendra, The situation will become worse then. Those ill-intentioned scientist will control machines and give them commands for destructive purposes. They will act like terrorists. Artificial intelligence can become the most powerful weapon in the future, and it has been noticed by the scientists worldwide that is why they have started their investigation into the matter. Hope everything will be under control soon and they will find a solution to the problem. Have a good day.

Dear friend, There few movies I had seen in which that clearly shows the advantages and disadvantages of this artificial intelligence. Among them one is "Robot" recently launched. Moreover if that is not handled or controlled properly by humans the effect is definitely to be worse. We may become slaves or eliminated if those artificial intelligence generated takes the world.

Hi buddy, Yes that is the concern of scientist nowadays as this is an issue which needs attention. It has been proved that some machines, Robots, have developed some capacities which can be destructive if not checked in time. I hope we will be able to do that timely and will control the risk. Have a good day.

Always a very interesting topic! I first go back to Moore's Law... which was originally said back in the late 50s, that computer power will constantly double, every 18 months... and it has been staying true! More recently, one scientist claimed that in only 5-7 years, the intelligence power of computers will be equal to that of humans, and it would only take another 18 months for it to be double that of human, then another 18 months before it would quadruple... and easily overpower humans, alltogether... of course, that was said back in the 70s, and never quite happened... We seem to be misinterpreting the power of our own minds... which is far greater then we originally thought... However, a common idea to the amount of "ram" that we have, how fast we can process information, would be around 1 petabyte... which is 1000 terabytes. With Moore's law continuing the way it has for the past 50 years, this time will be coming up around 2015... Verner Vinge, one of the biggest people in the direction of the "technological singularity" says that computers will surpass us sometime between 2005 and 2030, but absolutely not before or after that. I've also heard ideas from others that computers will match us completely by 2040 or so... others that say it would happen around 2100... others that say it would require quantum computing, which may not end up being possible... making an end to the technological revolution we've been having. But, I have another idea. What if technology not only stops, but it taken away? Seriously? Which would be a worse thing to have? Building up to a point where computers suddenly have control over us, or building up to a point where everything around us needs computers, and we suddenly loose them? What if it somehow became impossible to use electricity on earth, for some reason, and we lost all computers? So many things that we have nowadays suddenly wouldn't work, from your computer and lights, to your fridge and your heaters, to your cars, buses, and airplanes, to your cell phones and watches and TVs... everything would suddenly be out, and the majority of 1st world countries has no idea how to grow their own plants, or make their own food, or get from place to place without a vehicle... Which is worse? Gaining too much, or loosing it all?

Many thanks! Moore's Law has predicted many things which are true. But, I believe this question is still under investigation. Facts are suggestive of a destructive result. If it happens, humankind will be in great danger. I hope someone will definitely workout a plan. Thanks for such an informative response. I appreciate you effort.

It looks scary, doesn't it? If and when it happens, there is only someone to blame. He i MAN.

Very true, man is the reason behind all turmoil on earth. He has disturbed the natural balance, and now it is his turn to pay back. But, I wish it never happen.

Yes i think that may happen someday. Artificial Intelligence is progressing at a very high speed and a day will come when robots will have the same intelligence level as that of we humans. With extra abilities that they will possess, they could be a big threat to mankind. They can make us slave or whatever. We are calling our own end by doing this and if anything goes wrong in this process, be ready to suffer.

Robots are developing autofunctions. They have shown that they are going to pose a threat to humankind. If not given proper attention, they can do anything on earth, and of note, they have no heart. Hope everything will be under control. Have a good day.

To be honest it is way to early for artificial intelligence to be a threat to humankind. The only way that it could be a threat would be if we made robots that could reproduce (aka build some more), have a desire to hurt the human race (now why would we make that??) and mostly an amazing ability to learn (super hard to make). Overall I feel that we can maybe talk about this threat in 100 years, but we have to wait and see until then because right now the technology is just not there. Also the robots would have to have a way to constantly power themselves, not to mention they would need virtual eyesight with object recognition which is super complicated. Also an extremely powerfull computer would have to be in them which cannot happen yet.

Exactly, and scientist have discovered that machines have developed the ability to learn and improve on their own. That is the reason of their concern. You are correct that it is not going to take place in very near future, but it has all possibilities of coming into existence. Yes, I reiterate, it can happen, maybe as you say after 100 years, but it can happen.
