The purpose in life is not the gratifying of appetites nor of any selfish desires, but it is that we may make the world, a better place in which to live. Who agrees with this statement and why do you agree or disagree?

I definitely agree with you! People should accept the idea that our purpose in life does not center on achieving material things. It is rather on helping people grow as good individuals of the society and as stewards of God.

I agree with you . Our world is what we make it, All of us as a purpose in life we were created for a purpose and still some of us still don't know what our purpose in life is. we can change that as and individual,we all can make a change.

Hi Pose: I agree with you. In fact this is what gives life a sense. At the same time I think we can be happy doing the right things and taking the good decitions. I don't like people that are always being selfish in life, always looking what they can get for them and not what can they do to help the others. ALVARO

Hi starsailover, I feel the same way but maybe we should feel sorry for such people because they are the ones who don't get it. It's by helping others that we help ourselves. Blessings.

Everybody sure agree on this but only the problem is people are don't know or lack of knowledge how to preserve the world as a better place for us. Like hose people having huge business they are not care about the welfare of the people but only for the sake how to earn more money. Some business are destroying our natural resources like mining, drilling oil and others, killing more fishes and unpreseidented used of forest. see you around

Hi visavis, Thank you for bringing up that point and it's a very good one, yet it is these very people who do not understand. They are ruining the future for their children and grandchildren. I wonder if these people thing that they are going to live here forever because they sure can't take the money with them. I would also go as far as to say that they are not truly happy, even now. Blessings.

well,I suppose what you have said is just one part of the value of life!the value of life is not how rich you are,how long you live, but what you have valued others and how others valued you!so wether the earth is a better place to live not depends on you but on the realization of others!what we can do is to while we help others ,we help ourselves! have a good day!

The purpose of life is happiness. The plan of salvation breaks the purpose of life down into four main missions in mortality:receiving a physical body, obtaining personal perfection, acquiring prerequisite knowledge, and forming eternal units.

theoretically, you are right.but in a society where rights of man are forced to give way to autocracy.in a community,if farmers who protected their fieldlands anginst being illegal requisitioned were arrested even murdered by local governments, the purpose of life of the common ones are more severe.

i agree with you, pose. it is true that we should live to contribute to making other people's lives better and our world a much peaceful and better place to live. while we all need to survive on a daily basis by having to work and scrape for money, we should not forget that helping others and our world become a better place are also very important and essential to fulfilling our contribution to the rest of society and the world we live in. after all, we all belong to one universe and we live for one another and not for our own selfish reasons.

Yes, the purpose of life goes beyond material desires. We are here to make a difference and to offer our love and devotion to those in need.

Hi Mirita, Thank you for responding and as usual we agree. After all when we help another we are really helping ourselves. I feel sorry for those who still haven't realized that. Blessings.

We take on many roles in this short life - someone's child, student, parent, worker, friend, sister/brother.. and most importantly as servant of the God Almighty.. (if you believe in God + Religion).. And therefore to me, the purpose of life is to fulfill all your roles (function) + ALL the responsibilities that comes with it.. and it is definitely not easy...

I can't take on the world, and am happy if I can just change one person's life for the better. When I was 17-18 I thought I could change the world and marched for a better world, telling any who would listen how they should run the world. One terrible war later I realized that this was just blowing in the wind and restricted myself and my energy to one small act of kindness at a time.

Hi savypat, Thank you for commenting and that's exactly how it has to be done, one small act of kindness at a time. Very few people can change the world, but imagine if everyone lived that way. Blessings

It is good to make the lives of others better and the world better but we should complete our dreams while on the earth. If a person wants to be rich and makes that their purpose in life, we cant tell them that their purpose is wrong. That may not be your ideal way of life but that is theirs. So while helping others is respectable and a good goal for life, we cant make that everyones desire in life.

Hi raheemsupercool, Thank you for commenting and for making that point. Everyone does have the right to live as they chose. By helping others, we are really helping ourselves, though many can't understand this. All eventually learn that riches does not bring happiness. Blessings.
