my dad showed me a video of him once going to a friend's house with a variety of pets, and one of them is a turtle. i was really amazed. he had one in a big aquarium. i was amused on how majestic it was swimming around in the tank. i think he referred to it as a "pig-nosed turtle" if i remember it correctly. from that moment, i decided that i wanted to have one as a pet, or a maybe tortoise. we do have several fishes, 2 dogs, and a pair of birds as a pet right now but i have no idea on how to take care of turtles or tortoises. i was hoping that those of you who has knowledge on these stuff or currently owns a turtle or tortoise could give me some tips on how to take care of them. i would really appreciate your suggestions.

I had a turtle as a pet when I was a child. It was the easiest pet i ever had to take care of. They don't eat that much and they can't run away from you.

Turtles are not that hard to keep, in fact they are one of the creatures that live for a long time, like long life birds such as large parrots. I bought my eldest son one of those cute little green turtles, you know, the one they sell in our country in pet shops for feng shui or good luck when he was four or five years old, now he is already fourteen and the turtles are still alive, it also grew in size and sort of changed the jade like green color of the shell to brown.

That's quite a bit of research to do. Reptiles have different requirements than most other pets. They're cold blooded so their habitats have to have areas where they can both cool off or warm up as they feel the need. Turtles are swimmers but they'll also need some dry spots to come out of the water & warm up, usually with a lamp. Tortoises will need a large cage with folliage , a heat lamp, etc to simulate the environment outside. Neither is terribly hard to do if you know what your doing. Most local pet stores have books on the subject & I'd suggest you get one.
