Is it really an option to move to another country?

With everything that's happening to my country, with all the bombings, carnappings, killings, and almost all sorts of crimes being committed, I hear some people saying that their next move would just be to leave the country and go live somewhere else. They say it's the better option. It's safer elsewhere. The Philippines is becoming a warzone of its own doing. Different races, different religions, different beliefs, different people. Politicians who are committing crimes instead of protecting the people against crimes. There's nowhere to go. But is it really an option to leave the country and go elsewhere? Do you think it's safe to go anywhere than the Philippines? Everywhere, reports of similar cases are being reported. From the US, to Russia, to Thailand... And basically anywhere and everywhere. Maybe it's an option, maybe it's not. But in my own opinion, each country has its own war to fight. Each country has its own troubles. Why leave home when you can do something to change it? That something may be little, or even negligible, but at least you acted. I still believe in what my country lives for. I have hope that someday, although quite impossible, peace will be attained. Right now for me, leaving is not an option. Yes it is scary. Im scared to even go out of the house. But these terrorists prey on our fears. Everywhere it is like this. This is their mantra. So I don't think it's really an option to leave.

I've been considering trying my luck in another country, mainly because most jobs in Norway are in the capital Oslo and I don't like it all. Stupid city. But as EEC-recidents can take the unemployment money with them to EU countries for up to 3 months, I'd probably do it that way and not just leave and risk not getting anything to do. Finding a safe place in Europe is easier than in many other places around the earth I suppose. Lots of unsafe places too of course.

hi kaycharmedmd if enough of you lovely Filipinos would stick together perhaps some changes could be made. I think I would feel the same way if someone suggested I move to another country because the US is now experiencing a horrible depression with lots and lots of people out of work people losing their homes and being evicted from apartments. but like you said each country has its own problems so why not stay and try to help your homeland get better.Like you the United states is my country my land and I was born here. true my gr gr grandparents came here from the British Isles to be able to worship and live in freedom. this is my country and yours is the Philippines. I would love to visit the Philippines one day as I have heard how lovely it is from my friend Filipino Perla Santos. she spoke of all the delicious fruit you grow there and made me hungry just thinking about it. lol

Hello KayCharmedMD, I fully understand your sentiments, as I also live in the Philippines before. And its true that there's crime everywhere and whether we like it or not, it happens everywhere on a different level of gravity, depends on how you define crimes. I still remember when I was in the Philippines, I was in the Middle of Peninsula Stand off, where a group of young army hostage the Peninsula hotel, it was really a frightening experience for me seeing army tanks and rifle. I thought it was really cool seeing those thing in TV, but it's not. And now, that I'm here in the US, it's still the same. I guess it much more difficult. Living in a very quite neighborhood though, but when you go outside gangs are there. Leaving Manila is not an option right now, If I'll be given a chance I wanted to live in Manila, as usual there's no place like home..

question: if you decide to move to other country, are you sure that you are gonna be safe? are you comfortable, and as free as how you are free in your own country?are people around you is easy to approach in times of troubles, in times of needs? do you know the people around you when you decide to move? if you decide to move, are you sure there's no bombing, carjacking? the point is, everything happens in the Philippines can be happen anywhere in the world.even in the u.s. which known to be the most strict countries when it comes to safety precautions against bombing & terrorist attacks had been a victim which is the world trade center.

It will depend on the persons perspective. Right now, I can say that many pilipinos are fed up with the situation here in the Philippines that they think there are still hope in other country. Because of this, they resolve in moving out of the philippines and want to live to other country. Also Media played an important part to this. Here in the Philippines, the filipinos are not aware what are going in other countries because the media doesn't put too much emphasis on this.

I'm of the same opinion. Each country has it's own war to fight. In the USA we have people killing because the don't like the government. You know I find this wrong. They don't need to kill to prove a point. I think protesting would be a better option. People just need to realize the government is going to do what they want. Voting just make people think they are being heard. If I were you, I would try to find a safer place in you country. You would just be leaving 1 problem for another.

Your quite right. As the global economy has collapsed every country has struggled. The unrest this has caused has really stirred up the fanatics as well. Society has let it's greed & hate drive it for too long. Unless things calm down we're all in trouble. Moving wouldn't likely accomplish much. You'd land somewhere where the economy was already strapped, unemployment was high & they'd resent you from trying to take some of the scraps they're already having to fight for.

I think, personally, if my safety was at risk and the terrorism was that bad in my country I would probably leave if I had the means to do so. The pride and bravery that you have for your country is admirable, and it's great that you would like to do something to improve the situation there, but don't forget yourself and your family at the same time. Yes, things like this happen everywhere. Bad things happen everywhere, but some places are safer than others. From your description of conditions in your country I would be afraid to go there because it sounds really bad. I can tell you that while there have been terrorist attacks in the United States, I don't live my life in fear of leaving my house for fear of one happening. I feel if I had to live my life in fear then that wouldn't really be living in the true sense. You never know though. If things got that bad over here, maybe I would feel the same way you do. A person can say "I would do this if that happened" but you never really know what you would truly do unless you are actually faced with the actual situation. I admire your bravery though :)

I'm with you on this. Contemplating on leaving the country because of the spate of crimes is like a captain abandoning his ship. Well, I guess this is a faulty analogy since sinking ships are almost always "unsaveable." But I don't think the situation in our country has come to that point. Like what you said, we each could do a little something to help attain peace in our country. We might not see its fruition, heck, maybe neither our grandchildren, but at least we're acting on it. Yeah, leaving shouldn't be an option, and I feel that it's outright cowardice on the part of those who had even thought of leaving.

I agree and disagree because yes crime is everywhere, but maybe more in some places than others. I don't think that everywhere is completely unlivable. Like Copenhagen in Denmark I heard is supposed to be one of the safest places in the world to live in. That's not to say that there's never any crime there. I also don't think that we should live somewhere where we don't feel safe just because we want to do our part in society. If the politicians are corrupt, I wouldn't waste my time trying to do my part, unless I know for a fact that it will make a difference. Sadly, today if you don't do for yourself no one else will, not your country or society. One always has the option to better themselves, or their lives. Wanting to live a happy, peaceful life doesn't make anyone a coward.

Crimes happen to other countries but if you compare the crime rate of the Philippines with other countries, ours is relatively higher, which makes the option of going to another country tempting.
