Hello again pals
Last days i'm thinking really a lot for charity and what would i do, if i was able to stay away some money from our expenses and bills and to give them for charity.
Here, in Bulgaria, we have a lot of shelters for children, who doesn't have parents. They all need different stuff, like food and clothes. So now i'm thinking that when i start making more money, i would love to help them, because for me they are forgot from everyone. After the BBC movie for one of our shelters here, whole the world learned that here in our shelters nothing goes as it has to be - the care is not real care, teachers are cruel with the kids and act with them like prisons, arrogant and not nice.
Now i'm thinking some day ... if i am able, how can i make the right decision which shelter will really use my donations (doesn't matter if we talk about money or clothes or products) for the kids. Here we have lots of corruption and i believe that if the corruption happens in the high stages of the government, the government control all the shelters, so the people who work in the shelters will be corrupted too and who knows if the kids will receive something or not ...
I am thinking about meets with the directors some day, when i'm able to help. All of the shelters got bank accounts for donations, but i would never donate money, because i don't trust the people who will withdraw and use the money. I would like to meet in real the people who will receive what i donate and i think that will give me better view if the person is really cared for the children or not.
I'm not sure that in these shelters they care so much about the education about the kids. I've seen some really motivated young orphans, who wants to study in university, because they has never received the real love and care they needed in whole their life, so for me school books and books at all are good decision too. But still the books will be useless if the teachers doesn't attract the kids with them.
I'm posting that discussion, because i'm very interested in the social life of that kind of groups in our society. I want to study psychology or some other line, who will help specially that kind of "ill" groups of our society, because i believe that if parents or at least school educate kids to be good people with good knowledge, all the society will move bit faster and doing the right things in life.
So now the question - how do you pick who deserve your donations more? Is it the one you trust that he/she will use the donations right or it's just a part of your monthly life and you want to calm down your conscience that you made something good for someone in need?
Experience from people, who donate often, will be greatly appreciated, because the ones donated money from my side always has been given to beggars on the streets, but never given to organization who protect group of the society or shelters.
Thanks in advance.

When it comes to donating money, it is hard to decide which one is more important. Nothing can decide whether cancer is more important than world hunger or poverty. But when it comes to choosing a charity to donate to , choose one that is most relatable to yourself. If you can relate to the charity more, the donation seems more important to you. Another thing, it is more important to donate time and effort than just money.

True, but i still need time to make the money which will help me to buy donations, so everything is connected and good money comes with more work, so i have no time and i'll stay that privilege to people, who still wants to do something, but they can't donate someone else than time.
What is important for me is to give something which will go to the needed ones, not those, who will feel teased to steal it from the one i made donation to.

I don't donate to a lot of those organizations that send me things in the mail and things like that. If someone I know is doing a fund raiser or something like that I will happily help out. I also would rather donate food, and clothing and things like that to shelters and food pantries and when there is a disaster where people are hurting. I would rather give directly to people in need.

Hello and thanks for sharing. My opinion is the same, but still kids doesn't live so good in the shelters and i feel sorry about all of them. Of course there are always suffering people, but when i see kids in pain or hurt it's touching me too much. And i strongly believe that better childhood will provide good society member, full - filled, successful and hard working, also good person.

I do research on different charities for the causes I have more feeling for. I look at what percent of the money goes to the actual cause; how that money is spent; does the charity really "practice what it preaches"?; and other people's reviews of the charity. I give to both organizations and also occasionally people on the streets and donation jars.

I don't do a lot of monetary donations, as I don't have a lot. What I do have is a little bit of time to help out.
So, that's how I choose. Where I could physically do little things to help the charity. It doesn't only help others, it is also very gratifying for me.
Of course, if I ever come into money, then I would think wisely before signing a certain amount to charity.

I can't donate time, unfortunately. Right now i can't spend and money, but i plan to start working hard for that. For me everything depends on the time when i work - if i work longer i'll make more, if i work shorted - i will make less.
I donate blood sometimes, but i don't think it's enough.
Thanks for sharing Bounce.

Outside of my church offerrings I am not able to donate at the time any monetary funds. I do a lot of charity work and volunteer a great deal of time. If I was able to monetarily donate anywhere I would do so to the charities I volunteer my time as it is for Cancer stricken children and they hold a wonderful spot in my heart.

Hello hun, i'm wondering and of course thinking, because here everything is corrupted.
Even the churches take more money if you want to marry there in the weekend. We got a lot of TV shows and news about that how someone, who had the power to receive donations abuse with the received money.
Situation here is like everyone trust nobody - only friends and family.
Bureaucracy everywhere around and those, who got power to change the things, doesn't have time or just don't want to ....

I always donate to the United Way. I believe they are able to make a reasonable decision for me. Donating to food banks is also a good option. I think donating to people on the street may not be such a good option. Some of the people I have seen look clean and warm. When I see this, I think to myself they may live better than me. I just choose to work instead of stand on a street corner begging for money or food. One time I offer to buy someone a meal and they actually refused. This is why I just donate to the food bank.
