I think that the thing is that Shakespeare is such an important person in literature, and his plays are very well written. The issues in his plays, such as love, hate, and such, can still apply today.

If you read Hamlet, you will see that, apart form the outer shell, he is a very modern antihero. He is the kind of person that will not accept commitments in life. Does that sound as outdated?

but i dont think that it is because of the things "The issues in his play such as love, hate, and such, can still apply today." that it is there for the school children to study but i think that it may contain essential usages and also great language that will be good for the vocabulary of the children thanks for the comment happy mylotting

Because a. his works are vast and b.it teaches them about the English language. The thing that enables them to communicate in a University setting (and beyond). Shakespeare isn't necessarily a good writer (that's subjective), her may very well be a part of the canon because he's a historically significant writer.

I studied Shakespeare's dramas at Senior school. It's great. It has taught us about love and life.
